fall-leaves.jpgIt’s almost that time again; almost time for the leaves to start their transformation.  It is amazing to watch what mother nature can do; to watch her transformation.  It is almost as if the leaves become aflame; all the reds, and yellows, slowly shining their way through until the transformation is complete.  It is a such a grand splendor, even if it ultimately results in the leafs free fall, and death.  It is just another way that mother nature revives herself.  And it sure provides a great spectacle for all of us to enjoy.

I can’t wait to be able to sit amongst this grand transformation.  I can’t wait to be sitting in a treestand, breathing the crisp fall air, and taking in the show that is fall.  All of us hunters get to witness this great event up close and personal.  We notice, as the season starts, how green the forest is.  Then, as the season starts to change, we notice the change in the scenery around us, and we also ultimately notice, the absense of leaves once that process is complete.  Unless you hunt, you more than likely have never heard a leaf detach from its branch, and slowly free-fall to its ground location, where it will decompose and provide life for others.  It is something that is so simple, and yet something that so many people have missed.

I am looking forward to watching the leaves change, and taking in everything that is fall.  And I can’t think of a better way to do it, then while I’m sitting in a treestand, taking in mother nature, and watching all of the great things She has to offer.  If you haven’t experienced it, you’re definitely missing out.

This season is almost upon us!

It’s September already.  Fall is just around the corner.   And our early doe season is only a few weeks away.  The bow opener will be here in just 29 days, and little Abigail’s due date is just a few weeks after that.

Where has all the time gone?

smashwall.jpgJeff and I have an archery competition this weekend to attend, and the wife has a baby shower.  Jeff and I will be flinging arrows-hoping not to smash them into cinder blocks-and the wife will be opening baby presents.

It is definitely starting to feel like fall in the early morning, and also late at night.  And before I know it it will be time to rake leaves.  Of course those will take a back seat to little Abby and time in my treestand.

I love this time of year, and hopefully my work this week isn’t as bad as I think it is going to be.  Maybe then I can actually put a few more posts together–posts that are a little more structured then this random post.

I am so ready for this Fall.  A ton of exciting stuff is just on the horizon.

Just wanted to put up a quick post to wish everyone a happy Labor Day.

I can’t believe that the summer is almost over already.  Man how times flies.  Of course it isn’t all bad because that means that hunting is right around the corner, and that football is already here!!!!

Since it is the Friday before the last major holiday of the summer, I figured I would take this time to share a few family things that are going on.  I usually don’t go to in-depth, when it comes to family issues, but these are just too good not to share.

First, is a little baby update.  The wife is just now starting to become slightly uncomfortable.  Her feet are bigger than my sasquatch feet, and you can’t tell where her ankles end and her feet begin.  And before all of you leave comments telling me how cruel I am, just know that we pick on each other all the time, and she isn’t going to be mad about what I just said.

Starting next week we have to do the doctor visits every two weeks.  I can’t believe it is so close already.  But I guess the middle of October isn’t that far away.  We also start our Baby Classes next week as well.  To be honest, I’m not really looking forward to those, but I will be a trooper and do my part.

Other than that everything is going just fine.  Everything is how it is suppose to be and we are looking forward to our new arrival.  We have also decided on a name:  Abigail Michelle.  Just don’t buy anything with that name on it quite yet…..but we can!

The other family thing I wanted to touch on involves a move.  My Aunt, Uncle, Cousin, and his family are all moving back to Michigan this weekend.  We are all looking forward to having them around again, and of course them being up here means that they will get to enjoy Michigan’s great outdoors once again.  They have been gone for quite a few years, so all of us being able to enjoy the outdoors together again, is going to be great.  Sure, they have to leave South Carolina in order to move back up here, but I say that is a small price to pay (no offense Jeff, but Michigan is, and has always been, our home).

Lets just hope that one of them gets a chance to kill a monster buck before Jeff does.

That is pretty much it for family updates.  I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend.

mfh-dgs-d40-l.jpgLast weekend was a big disappoint for me.  After our great streak of shooter bucks on cam, and all of the success we have had with the trailcams, I headed into the woods full of anticipation.  Unfortunately, when I got to the newly placed cams, I only had, after an entire week of them being out, 20 pictures total between the two cams.  That wasn’t exactly what I was expecting.  To say I was a little disappointed would be an understatement.

The cams were located in the vicinity of two new treestand locations that we had set up, and I was really having a good feeling about what was going to be on them-too bad that didn’t turn out.

What am I trying to get to with all of this?  Well, here it goes.  I wonder how much weight all of you put in to what you get on camera.  Would you abandon this spot because of the lack of pictures on the camera?  I watched deer use one of these locations over and over last year, so I know they are there.  I just wonder what my next step is now.

I tend to lean towards leaving the camera’s there for one more week and seeing what I get on them this weekend.  I honestly don’t think I’m moving the camera regardless though, because there are just so many factors that could effect the pictures-slow trigger speed, dense cover, angle of the camera, etc.

The bottom line is that I was very disappointed, and I just wanted to know what all of you would do in this same situation.  I, for now, am leaving the camera and treestands where they are.  I have a gut feeling about these spots and I don’t want to abandon the spot because of a trailcam.

What do you think?
