Pick your poison: You can watch kids catching night crawlers, and then a father/son duo using those worms to catch some nice bluegills.  Or you can watch Jeff and his buddy, Luke, trying to put a gobbler on the ground with a bow.

Whichever one you choose, I’m sure you’ll enjoy.

In the meantime, and while I get geek-ed up and ready to get my wife sighted in this weekend for her first year of turkey hunting, check out the new video we have posted on SOTV.  It’s a typical fishing experience for those involved – sitting back and watching Jeff catch all the fish.  But it’s worth watching for Jeff’s safety tip at the end.

And, not only will you learn something, but you’ll get to see what all the rest of the SimplyOutdoors’ crew was doing last Sunday while I was almost dead.

This video is from last May, and it features Jeff, along with a few new friends, chasing after a gobbler known in our parts as “Mr. Waddles”.

Enjoy the video, and you can expect a full fishing report sometime early next week.  Earlier this year, I wrote a post about how an electric barrier on the river was finally being turned off, and after reading one of the local reports, it appears that the barrier’s dormancy has had some positive effects.  We can’t wait!

But, regardless, fish or no fish, I’m sure we’ll manage to HAVE FUN!

Of course, the fishing was a little slow, but we still managed to find ways to have fun.  How?  Well, you’ll just have to watch to find out.

I love sharing these videos with all of you, and I love them for selfish reasons as well.  It’s just great to, not only be able to re-live the moment in your mind, but also to be able to see the moment over and over again.  And even though I wasn’t exactly patient when it came to the whole filming thing, so we didn’t get to capture the actual kill on film, it’s still cool to see the emotion that was experienced afterward.

This video is interesting too, because I always tend to be a little hard on TV shows that put so much focus on celebrating after a kill.  But I have to realize that emotion is a huge piece of the hunting puzzle and has to be included.  My elation in this video isn’t necessarily all about the kill; it was more about finally achieving a goal, and about never giving up.  And, in there somewhere, it was about providing some quality food for the table that the whole family feasted on later.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this latest video.  I get so excited in the video that I almost can’t even stand to watch myself.  But it was true, raw emotion; we don’t use cue cards in SimplyOutdoors’ videos.

This early season allowed Tyler to experience all the emotions that come with hunting – the feeling that comes with missing, and then the elation that comes with………well you’ll just have to watch to find out.

Sit back, relax, and watch as Justin and Jeff, finally, after a number of days, outwit a wary Southern Michigan gobbler.

This video is definitley proof that persistence can pay off.

In fact, just a few months ago, we actually sat down with some of our other family members and started to put something like this together; it simply just didn’t work out, though.  There were many reasons it stalled where it did – not wanting to feel pressured to provide footage, monetary concerns, etc. – but I realized yesterday why this little side endeavour never got off the ground:  because I hate being on camera; or seeing myself on camera.

After I watched the video footage that Jeff posted of me yesterday, I can completely understand why I wasn’t a big fan of the whole SimplyOutdoors Productions idea.  I hated watching myself.  I hated hearing myself talk .  I looked like a blubbering idiot who really didn’t even know what he was doing.  And do I really sound like that?

Thankfully, Jeff, my sister’s boyfriend, and one of our cousins joined up with another outdoor filming crew and are pursuing their Outdoor Channel goals over there.  If they were to rely on my stellar TV show hosting capabilities, or my not-so-excellent video oratory, they would never make it anywhere.

I’m absolutely sure of that:)
