My cousin’s wife recently became very interested in photography, and in order to practice her new craft, she took a few family members to a local park to take some shots. What happened next – and the fact that she was fortunate enough to capture the moment forever – is simply awesome!
Here’s the story in her words:
We were at Fitzgerald Park in Grand Ledge and walking toward the staircase to The Ledges. I turned to look to the right and imagine my surprise when I saw a hawk flying through the air with a squirrel in its claws. I pulled up my camera to take a shot, but he flew by too fast. But I got lucky…he decided to perch on a tree right inside the park.
I approached the tree slowly, so I didn’t startle the hawk. I took some shots of him clearly confident over his kill. Then he began feasting on his dinner. I know…to some people this may seem sad, but after all it is the circle of life and is what nature intended.
The whole thing happened so fast, but it was amazing to see nature in full form. I have never been close enough to something like that to capture the essence of pure animal instinct and the power of survival.
The two pictures in the post are only two of the six she was able to capture, but they show the unique essence of the entire experience. It was an incredible moment, captured in time – a raw, once-in-a-lifetime moment. And it proves that nature – and it’s perceived cruelness – is simply how all of us survive; it is nature in its purest form.
Tooth, fang, and claw. It’s beautiful.
