I can’t believe it’s the end of 2009 already. And then, once I really started to think about it, I realized that today closes out, not only the end of a year, but the end of a decade. Crazy!
This decade has kind of been a tough one. Personally it’s been pretty good for me, but for many people – especially during the last couple years – it’s been very difficult. Also, this decade saw a variety of different things – we started off with the Y2K scare, and then not long after 9/11 happened and all of our lives changed forever.
As far as hunting and fishing go, it’s been a pretty good decade. This decade allowed me to celebrate more hunting and fishing success then I had ever enjoyed previously. I shot a few bucks with my bow, had a once-in-a-lifetime day on the river catching steelhead, and shot my first turkey. Jeff and I managed to double-up on two doe a few years ago, and Jeff had an excellent decade, shooting his two biggest bucks to date.
What does 2010 and the next decade hold in store? Well, hopefully I can document shooting my first longbeard, and in a few years I’ll be able to share more of the outdoors with my young daughter. Hopefully this next decade becomes the “prime” of my hunting career, and maybe affords me the opportunity to shoot a “wall caliber” buck. I guess we’ll have to wait and see on that one (and not hold our breath
:)).
This decade has been a great one. I married my wife, had my first child, enjoyed some hunting and fishing success, and still get to do those things in the greatest country in the world.
I’m not sure it could get any better.
