Huntin’ Time Expo/My Lack of Posts
It's absolutely no secret that I've been neglectful of this blog lately. Some evidence: I never posted a few of the deer that Justin shot. I didn't post anything about Jeff, Barry, Erin, and Josh heading down to the ATA show in Columbus a little over a week ago. And I've never posted anything about the fact that SimplyOutdoors TV will be airing on the Pursuit Channel starting in January 2...
End of Deer Season: Maybe I Stink
Last night I cleaned my muzzleloader.  And though I usually love the feeling that comes with cleaning any firearm, last night's cleaning kind of depressed me a little, because it was a sure sign that another deer season had passed and that I had once again went through an entire season without putting any venison in the freezer. As I was cleaning and reflecting back on the last couple of seaso...
Bittersweet Hunt: The Rest of the Story
In my previous post, I eluded to the fact that my miss last Sunday morning was only the beginning of a very memorable morning.  Here is the "rest of the story". After my miss, it was still only a little after 8am, so Jeff and I decided that we might as well stick it out for a little while and see if any other deer decided they wanted to eat out of his food plot. And that is when the weirdne...
Bittersweet Hunt
Though I had only been able to hunt a handful of times, the fact remained that I hadn't laid eyes on a deer since around October 8th.  It was making it pretty difficult to head into the woods, because I honestly wasn't sure if I was ever going to see a deer again; I was starting to wonder if I had a deer whistle permanently embedded within my body that was preventing them from coming within a hal...
Another Deer for Jeff
While I don't have much to celebrate when it comes to deer hunting, after tonight I can bask in at least one thing:  that I told Jeff about Hornady SST's, and that, because of my wisdom, Jeff was able to put down this big doe without fear of his bullet coming apart. Congrats to Jeff.  Welcome to the dark side, and say goodbye to Powerbelts.

On a Turkey Roll

Posted By: Arthur on May 15, 2009 in Hunting, Turkey - Comments: 7 Comments »

102_2093-1I’m pretty sure the 2009 turkey season -  when looking back on it after it’s gone – will be done with smiles on all of our faces.  I can’t remember a hunting or fishing season that was so saturated with success.  The season did have some down time – mine and Justin’s misses to name a few – but overall, when going through the memory banks of hunting and fishing season’s past, I can’t think of one that was filled with this much success.

boat-003And not only did we have success, but we even managed to capture that success on film; the only success not being captured was my own.  Jeff has his success forever captured on film, and Justin has a very memorable hunt captured on film as well.  And lets not forget that I have my emotion after the kill captured, which is probably better footage then the actual shot would have been (I still hate watching myself, but I was excited.).

This 2009 turkey season is going to go down in history as one of the best ever for all of us involved at SimplyOutdoors.  It had everything you want in any story: heartbreak, disappointment, jubilation, excitement, and even a little drama.

turk09-010I’m hopeful this is only the beginning of what is going to be a memorable 2009 hunting season.  Hopefully deer season is as good to us as turkey season was, and hopefully the summer fishing season is as productive too.

The turkey season is still not over in our neck of the woods.  We still have one of the SimplyOutdoors’ crew who hasn’t filled her tag yet, and hopefully that will happen in the weeks to come.  My sister, Melissa, still has a turkey tag burning a hole in her pocket, and they will be out trying to fill that before the season comes to an end.

Lets hope that she bags her first turkey, and puts an exclamation point on what has already been one heck of a hunting season.

I like to think that a bad day of hunting is better than a good day at work.

I hope everyone at Simply Outdoors has a great season and continued success.

  7. Glad the turkey season went well and you all had success. I know Melissa will connect on hers too.
