There is one downside to writing and outdoor blog, and relying on fellow outdoorsmen (and women) for your readership: lack of people reading when the weather turns nice.
Normally our little blog here has steady readership throughout the weeks and months. But lately – as soon as the weather started to turn nice – I’ve noticed a steady decline in the number of people who are reading the blog.
To be honest, I can’t really blame them for not reading. I am just as guilty when it comes to heading outside, and not paying attention to what everyone is writing. I guess that is a problem when you write a blog that advocates the outdoors: people actually listen to you and head outside. It’s a double edge sword.
Not to be discouraged, though, I’m still going to keep writing. I know that eventually – myself included – everyone will start to read again. And I can understand if they pick and choose at this point, because the weather outside is spectacular. And if you are a blogger from the Midwestern States, I can understand even more – our winter was horrible.
So if you don’t read this because you’re starting to get your garden ready, are scouting for turkey, or are just sitting outside enjoying the first official day of Spring, I understand. And I don’t blame you.
After all that is what the OBS, and all of our outdoor blogs are about: getting outside. And judging from my site stats – mission accomplished:):)

I never really thought about it that way, but you’re right. My blog readership drops off in the spring too. I always thought that it was just because I write less in the spring.
Keep writing though; the posts will still be there when it rains!
I’ve noticed the same trend and it’s ok with me too! Although for the past few days I’ve been doing a lot of reading since Sugar pretty much insisted on being held all the time. (I haven’t been able to comment on everything but I have been reading!)
I’m guilty as charged!… I still love to read your blogs … it’s just that by the time I get to them I’m several blogs behind… I get caught up in jerks! Like Blessed I’ve been reading… but not commenting… keep up the good work!
I would agree and it is funny that we all encourage being outdoors.
I’ve never really thought about it, but I’m guessing you’re right and there is a connection. Still, the posts won’t go away, so people can catch up on rainy days.
I have noticed there aren’t as many people commenting lately. I do believe the weather plays a big factor in that, who wants to be on the computer when it is so nice outside.
Keep up the writing there are rainy days in the forecast. I must admit to having a love/hate relationship with my computer recently. The weather has improved 100% in my book over what we were being subjected to.
Spring is the air. Scouting for turkeys and spring. Giving turkey hunting seminars all over the place and pretty soon I run out of time to write my blog or visit other blogs.
But like the others said you just have to keep up appearances ones in a while and eventually after spring season it will be all back to normal until about August.
