I sat down last night – after a long weekend of fun – and was wondering why I felt so warm. At first I thought it was a fever, but then I realized that only my face felt warm. How could that be? Did I have a sunburn in March? No way. After a little further investigation, though, I did confirm that the warmth I was feeling was because of a sunburn; not from wind burn, or a fever. A sunburn in March? That hardly seems possible doesn’t it?
The sunburn started on Saturday – during some outside basketball – and it got finished off on Sunday when we closed a book on one of our hunting properties. We had leased this property a few times over the last few years, but this year – with the clamp that has been put on everyone’s budget – all of us decided to not lease the property again. The property owner was not very accomodating either, so we decided to use that money later in the year for a couple Up North trips, rather than spend it on the property right now.
The lease ended yesterday, and with that, we set out to take all of our treestands down. This property spans 180 acres, so the thought of having to walk it to remove treestands put some fear in all of us. It was starting to sound like a perfect excuse to use quads – and use quads we did.
The ATV’s sure do make quick work of such a big task, and we even had a little time to “play around” after the work was done. We cruised around the property, and had a great time strolling around it for the last time. We got to see what kind of “work” the quads could do, and had an excellent time doing it. Unfortunately I didn’t get to cruise it on my own quad, but that will be a story for another post.
I’m sure we looked awesome on our way out of the property as well: Dodge 2500 truck, flat bed car hauler trailer, and four very, very, very muddy quads. You know it’s a good day when you have to change your clothes just so you can get in the truck. I think it put a smile on everyone’s face – cleaning the quads, however, did not!
It was a great weekend. The quads were a blast. And although we closed a hunting chapter in all of our lives, we will be opening some new ones when we hunt Up North later in the year. And Jeff will remember this property forever, since he shot the monster off of it last year.
My face still feels warm as I type this. But man was it worth it.

It’s been kind of warmer around her as well. Tomorrow we are suppose to hit 70 then back to 40′s by Wednesday.
Hopefully you all made the right choice and will have new adventures some place else.
Sure was a fun day! But man am I tired today..
Got to look out for that global warming I think. Anything done outdoors makes it a good day, even if it is a little hard work.
It was beautiful today and they are saying 80 tomorrow! Spring is definitely starting!
I totally agree with this statement: “You know it’s a good day when you have to change your clothes just so you can get in the truck.” I can’t hardly wait for summer to get here, and hearing stories like this just makes me more excited for summer!
That’s funny, cause my son-in-law and I done the same thing two weeks ago, and we plan on hunting the U.P. this year.
My son and I were out in the yard last weekend and he had his shirt off and got a bad sun burn.Poor little fella was peeling it was bad! I guess you gotta wear sunscreen year round!
