Huntin’ Time Expo/My Lack of Posts
It's absolutely no secret that I've been neglectful of this blog lately. Some evidence: I never posted a few of the deer that Justin shot. I didn't post anything about Jeff, Barry, Erin, and Josh heading down to the ATA show in Columbus a little over a week ago. And I've never posted anything about the fact that SimplyOutdoors TV will be airing on the Pursuit Channel starting in January 2...
End of Deer Season: Maybe I Stink
Last night I cleaned my muzzleloader.  And though I usually love the feeling that comes with cleaning any firearm, last night's cleaning kind of depressed me a little, because it was a sure sign that another deer season had passed and that I had once again went through an entire season without putting any venison in the freezer. As I was cleaning and reflecting back on the last couple of seaso...
Bittersweet Hunt: The Rest of the Story
In my previous post, I eluded to the fact that my miss last Sunday morning was only the beginning of a very memorable morning.  Here is the "rest of the story". After my miss, it was still only a little after 8am, so Jeff and I decided that we might as well stick it out for a little while and see if any other deer decided they wanted to eat out of his food plot. And that is when the weirdne...
Bittersweet Hunt
Though I had only been able to hunt a handful of times, the fact remained that I hadn't laid eyes on a deer since around October 8th.  It was making it pretty difficult to head into the woods, because I honestly wasn't sure if I was ever going to see a deer again; I was starting to wonder if I had a deer whistle permanently embedded within my body that was preventing them from coming within a hal...
Another Deer for Jeff
While I don't have much to celebrate when it comes to deer hunting, after tonight I can bask in at least one thing:  that I told Jeff about Hornady SST's, and that, because of my wisdom, Jeff was able to put down this big doe without fear of his bullet coming apart. Congrats to Jeff.  Welcome to the dark side, and say goodbye to Powerbelts.

The Quad Shopping Continues…..

Posted By: Arthur on March 5, 2009 in Equipment - Comments: 8 Comments »

The wife and I ventured out to one of our local motor sports dealers the other night, and officially started the search for our new ATV.  Unfortunately, this dealer wasn’t very accommodating, and after wasting close to two hours in their shop we decided we were going to continue our search.  In a nutshell, the first outing was very disappointing.

I was discouraged at first, but the wife – as always – was not deterred, and promptly found two very nice used quads the next morning at another dealer.  This dealer is a little bit farther away, but the two used quads she found appear to be in decent shape, and most importantly, are decently priced.  We are going to head down there tonight and see what they have to say.  Hopefully it works out.

At first we were focused on a two-person ATV, and that is what we looked at the other night.  But after pricing the two persons models,  it really makes just as much sense to buy two used quads, rather than one real expensive one.  Plus, that way we get to have equal the amount of fun, and not have to share the quad.  If you knew my wife, you’d know that is a much better way to go.  She told me she was fine with sharing, but I knew deep down that she wanted one for her very own.

We’re excited about the prospects of tonight, and hope that everything goes a little better than our first shopping trip.  This dealer appears to be a little larger, and has quite a few more options, so we’re optimistic about the trip.  We’re even hopeful – with the new quad deals we saw them advertising – that we might be able to work two new quads into the deal.

At this point, though, I’d be happy with a couple decent used ones.  Now everyone cross your fingers for us……and let me buy your trailer!!!!

    New Quads would be best!

If you end up going used, I hope you have better luck with yours than we’ve had with ours… it’s fine now, after months and months of work and lots and lots of cash we hadn’t planned on spending. We would have been better off to have just bought something new!

  2. You are making me want to go buy one.

    Good luck tonight!

I want to ride this week-end so you better get one…or two!

Looking forward to hear how it all turns out. I have always wanted to get one myself.

Keep looking. I found two 2004 Polaris 600 Twin Sportsmans with a trailer, One had 60 hours and the other 120….yes I had to repair a couple things. Nothing the purchase of a shop manual didn’t show me how to do. Got them for $9,000. I too didn’t want to pay the new price……deals are out there and it seems people are parting with them more and more here lately

I have no trailer…but boy have I got a deal for you! 2001 Dodge Ram 2500…man, you’ve just got to buy this baby! Sweet deal! Oh, and I’ve only been trying to sell it for 18 months. Can’t believe the pickup market done went and dried up at the wrongest of times!

Good luck in your search for a 4 wheeler – never used one myself. At the expense of sounding like a baby I’ll go ahead and say they kinda scare me a tad!
