Abby’s first trip to the Zoo
With summer winding down, and hunting season close to kicking into full gear, the wife and I really wanted to do one last - purely for Abby - activity.   Then, one night while reading one of her favorite books, I instantly knew where we were heading - the zoo. Abby loves to read books involving animals, and she loves to name the animals as we read through the books.  She loves all the animal...
Moving stands, checking cams: No outfitter needed!
When I'm watching outdoor television, there is nothing that gets under my skin more than hearing the person in front of the camera say something like this: "Well......we're on our way to Battle Creek Outfitters to hunt for a few days. Jim, of BC Outfitters, has been watching a few bucks during the year, so hopefully we'll have a chance at one of them in the next few days. We're gonna get a sh...
The Aftermath
It rained on July 4th. And while the rain was a welcome relief to the retreating soldiers, as well as the victorious ones, it was not welcomed by the local residents of the little Pennsylvania town.  It came down in sheets, soaking the unburied bodies still on the field - some with hands folded, and others with clenched fists; it inhibited the Army of Northern Virginia's retreat across the Pot...
Nature: Life in Stereo
As the beginning notes of Round Here made contact with my auricles, I was in heaven; I had forgotten how incredible my Bose earphones were.  I could hear every instrument in the song - the chords on the guitar; the intricate timing of the cymbals and snare; the keyboard quietly playing in the background.  It was as if I was experiencing the song for the first time, though I had heard it many tim...
First Show
The SimplyOutdoors' crew had a great time over the weekend - we got to converse with quite a few local Michigan residents, and we had a great time doing so.  It's always fun sharing stories with local hunters - and it was even fun talking with the non-hunters. We were definitely happy to see the weather hold out for us, too.  There was a chance of thunderstorms throughout the entire day, but,...

Bringing Back the Assault Weapons Ban

Posted By: Arthur on February 27, 2009 in Opinion, Ramblings - Comments: 7 Comments »

I’ve been trying to keep quiet during the early months of the new administration.  But at this point, I just can’t help myself anymore.  Though President Obama said over and over during his candidacy, that he respected the Second Amendment, and assured the American people that he wasn’t after our guns, it didn’t take too many days for the Obama Administration to start their crusade against law-abiding, gun-owning, Americans.

The first on the docket – reinstating the Assault Weapons Ban permanently.  This ban was instated during the Clinton presidency, and expired under the Bush Administration in 2004.  Now this ban is set to be reinstated by the Obama Administration.

Everyone knows that “assault weapons” are the undermining cause for all crimes in the United States, right?  Hardly.  It’s too bad that under this ban the definition for “assault weapon” would include the pistol that I currently own.  Apparently, any weapon that can hold more than 10 shots would fall under this silly legislation.  This isn’t about “assault weapons” at all;  what it’s about is the systematic removal of our god given rights.

Or maybe I’m wrong; maybe it’s about Mexico.

A quote from Eric Holder, U.S. Attorney General at a news conference in Washington:

“As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons. I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum.” (The emphasis is mine).

Apparently the Obama Administration thinks it is necessary to impose gun restrictions on law-abiding Americans, so that we can protect Mexico.  They believe that infringing on our Second Amendment rights will help Mexico control the flow of guns going across their border.

Who cares about Mexico?  And why should I give up my god-given rights because another country can’t secure their own border?

It took a little more than a month for this current administration to impose restrictions on all of us who are “clinging to guns, or religion”.  They are thumbing their nose at the Constitution, and imposing needless gun restrictions in order to protect another country that can’t even protect itself.

Amazing.

Don’t hold your breath, all you gun owners out there.  This is only the beginning of the possible gun restrictions we will see coming down the pipe.  Now is the time to make your voices heard; and if 0ur elected officials don’t listen, we will have ample opportunity to send them packing in 2010.  Write your congressman, send letters, or emails, and join the NRA if you are currently not a member.

If we are going to fight the good fight, now, more than ever, is the time to do it.

Author’s note: Stay tuned to the site tomorrow.  You’ll be able to read about some actual outdoor fun we had this weekend.  Man was it fun.

That is scary news, I was worried about this administration and this only confirms that my worries are warranted.

I couldn’t agree more with you, why should I care about what is going on in Mexico. They need to learn how to patrol their own and control their border.

Keep up the good fight Arthur, you know the guys over at Addicted to Hunting will be fighting for our rights along side you!

  2. Blessed says:

This is when I wish I had some extra cash to throw at a gun-rights lobbying group that was working on capital hill to protect our rights.

I hope that we are able to keep this administration from taking away all of our rights!

  3. EVERYONE, and I mean Everyone needs to get involved in some way on these issues! Join the NRA or some other pro gun lobbying group. Write or call your congressmen and women! Help organize the 2nd amendment march on the national or state level! Do something, don’t just sit by and hope someone else takes up the cause. EVERYONE must take an active role in protecting our God given rights! Thanks Art for posting this. I fully agree with you on all points!

If I may quote you Arthur,

Who cares about Mexico? And why should I give up my god-given rights because another country can’t secure their own border?

I never voted for him, I never cared for his politics and I never will. I am purchasing what I can when I can and nobody is going to take it away. I am an AMERICAN – DON”T TREAD ON ME!

I’ve been trying hard to keep my mouth shut too (at least in the blogging world) but the Obama administration has me extremely worried. I think this is only the beginning of a very scary and frustrating period for gun owners and hunters.

  6. Jeff says:

If anything, we should be preparing for the fall of the Mexican government by purchasing more weapons!
Last week, the DHS released a memo saying that their government is barely hanging on in their current drug war and that there is a GOOD chance that they are going to lose control of the country and that we should be prepared to send troops! Forget about Afganistan/Pakistan providing an ungovernable area for terrorist, we are going to have one right on our border soon – if not already.

  7. Matt says:

Very good post Arthur. I’ll have to forward a link to some gun owners I know who voted for Obama, saying “Oh, he’ll never try and take our guns away.”

I agree that we should all do what we can to protect our rights, yet I fear that ulitimately the assault on our rights will be much greater than most people can imagine.
