Huntin’ Time Expo/My Lack of Posts
It's absolutely no secret that I've been neglectful of this blog lately. Some evidence: I never posted a few of the deer that Justin shot. I didn't post anything about Jeff, Barry, Erin, and Josh heading down to the ATA show in Columbus a little over a week ago. And I've never posted anything about the fact that SimplyOutdoors TV will be airing on the Pursuit Channel starting in January 2...
End of Deer Season: Maybe I Stink
Last night I cleaned my muzzleloader.  And though I usually love the feeling that comes with cleaning any firearm, last night's cleaning kind of depressed me a little, because it was a sure sign that another deer season had passed and that I had once again went through an entire season without putting any venison in the freezer. As I was cleaning and reflecting back on the last couple of seaso...
Bittersweet Hunt: The Rest of the Story
In my previous post, I eluded to the fact that my miss last Sunday morning was only the beginning of a very memorable morning.  Here is the "rest of the story". After my miss, it was still only a little after 8am, so Jeff and I decided that we might as well stick it out for a little while and see if any other deer decided they wanted to eat out of his food plot. And that is when the weirdne...
Bittersweet Hunt
Though I had only been able to hunt a handful of times, the fact remained that I hadn't laid eyes on a deer since around October 8th.  It was making it pretty difficult to head into the woods, because I honestly wasn't sure if I was ever going to see a deer again; I was starting to wonder if I had a deer whistle permanently embedded within my body that was preventing them from coming within a hal...
Another Deer for Jeff
While I don't have much to celebrate when it comes to deer hunting, after tonight I can bask in at least one thing:  that I told Jeff about Hornady SST's, and that, because of my wisdom, Jeff was able to put down this big doe without fear of his bullet coming apart. Congrats to Jeff.  Welcome to the dark side, and say goodbye to Powerbelts.

Bear Attack Video

Posted By: Arthur on February 23, 2009 in Videos - Comments: 8 Comments »

I had the opportunity to hang out with my brother and two of my cousins last weekend.  In the course of our conversations we started to talk about bear attacks.  I started to tell them about a bear attack I had seen on Easton’s Bowhunting TV, and found out that neither of them had seen the footage.  Because of that, I figured why not share that video here.

Easton Bowhunting TV Bear Attack

On YouTube’s site I noticed that it had been requested that this particular video not be embedded, so I decided to only share the link to the video here.  It is definitely worth a look, though, if you have the time.

I am not sure how I would have reacted to this particular situation.  I’m glad the crew’s quick thinking saved all lives involved, though, including the bear’s.  I would have hated to see those three cubs orphaned so young.

Please go check it out, and let us know what you think.  I think it is one of the best pieces of footage I have ever seen.  An amazing, amazing, video.

I’ll bet those guys had to pull over and let the adrenaline wear off a bit. Eight feet and he was shooting in the water, he’s got more discipline then I would have. Thats eight feet from cashing in the chips.

incredible footage… it does make a person wonder how you would react to a situation like that… the mamma bear with cubs is one situation I think every outdoorsman hopes to avoid… Gary has had several
hair raising experiences with mother black bears that he’d just as soon not had! He now carries a side arm…

Wow. Glad you posted this so I could finally see it. Amazing stuff.

  4. goes to show that you need to practice with your side arms before heading to the field. Without practicing drawing your side arm effectively there is no way someone could have done that so quick. Practice, practice, practice makes perfect. Good to see all got away safe including the bear. Thanks for posting the video.
