2009 Outdoor Goals

Info

27602goals-posters.jpgI know we are already well into the new year, but I figured it still wasn’t a bad idea to contemplate some things I’d like to get accomplished this outdoor year. I don’t want to use the term resolution – because most of us have a tendency to break those – but I think the term goal makes it much more attainable……in my head anyway:)

It seems that last year’s outdoor seasons went way too fast – especially my bowhunting season – which, as you know, was pleasantly interrupted by little Abby’s arrival. In that spirit I – especially since we are starting to figure out little Abby’s routine – thought that I would lay out a few goals I want to accomplish this year. They aren’t unattainable, but they can be difficult at times; they are still worth mentioning though.

And here they are – in no particular order:

Kill my first turkey – Jeff got his last year, and I think this is my year to finally knock one down. I honestly don’t care if it’s a Jake; I need to get my first one out of the way so I would be happy with any male turkey that crossed my path.

Shoot a Deer with my Bow – That got to be a bit challenging last year, but shouldn’t be too much of a problem this year (I’m trying to sound confident here). I had opportunities last year – that in retrospect – I probably shouldn’t have let pass. But, that is just the way life works, and hindsight is 20/20 isn’t it.

Fish………..a lot! – I never fish as much as I should, and I think this year I need to change that; no more excuses! We need to Stealhead fish, Salmon fish, and of course we need to catch some bass, pike, walleye, bluegill, and anything else we can coax to hitting a lure or biting a worm. I want to fish, fish, fish – from the moment the pond opens up until the time bowhunting season starts. And no I’m not ice fishing. You couldn’t pay me enough to walk on that stuff.

Appreciate all Outdoor Activities to the Fullest – I tend to focus on all the negative portions of the outdoor experience, and not focus on just being able to be there. That is going to change this year.

Visit Gettysburg – We are already planning a vacation to Pennsylvania in the Summer, and I can’t wait. I then can cross Shiloh and Gettysburg off my list.

Get Abby outside Whenever Possible – I do realize that she is limited in mobility, but that shouldn’t keep us from getting her outside when we can. She will be camping with us, hanging out with mommy and daddy while we fish the pond, and plain having a good time in the fresh air. You can be sure of that.

And with that you have my outdoor goals for 2009. I think they are reasonable, and definitely something worth sticking to.

Hopefully the animals cooperate, but either way, I’m going to have a good time. And that’s a promise.
