Jeff got ran over by a Reindeer???
Well…Not really a Reindeer. I figured this would be a perfect time for this type of post with Christmas fast approaching. This whole story happened some time ago. But it did happen!
It all started one afternoon in late November. I was sick of sitting so I decided to get up and walk(stalk) a corn field that butted up to the property we hunted. I knew where deer liked to come out of the corn so I got on a fresh set of tracks and off I went.
Slowly I would look down each corn row looking for a deer bedded in comfort. About 300 yards in I look and notice a buck bedded up in between two corn rows! As I look closer I notice there is a couple does with him. With the way he was laying I couldn’t get a clean shot at him so i decided I was going to take the bigger doe. As i poke my 12 gauge into the corn row to take the shot, the big doe stands up…BANG!!! The shot hits perfect and down she goes! Well that’s what I thought until I stepped into the next row to see where she was, that’s when out of nowhere I feel something hit me! Next thing I know I’m on my back.
As I’m laying on my back, I look for my gun and see it laying about 10 feet from me. I also check to make sure I’m in one piece. In my haze I look down to see that I’m covered in blood but realize it’s not mine(thank god) Once back on my feet I realize what had happened. When I shot she had turned and ran down the same row I was standing in trying to get away. With the corn leaves laying across the rows I did not see her running straight at me! After taking a few minutes to settle down and realizing that I had just got ran over by a deer, I had to laugh just a little even though it hurt like heck!
A few minutes later I went to get Arthur. At that time I didn’t know if I even wanted to tell him this story. But the 1st thing he asked me was “did you find her yet?” Which I said “no”, and which he replied ”Why is there blood all over you then?” So I started to tell him what happened. I don’t think he stopped laughing all the way to get the deer! I am hear to say that getting ran over by a deer is not something that I would like to do again, but it does make for a great story!
We did recover the deer and I am here to say…BOY AM I GLAD IT WASN’T A BUCK!!

Now that is a great story. I’m glad that I am not the only one that seems to have crazy things happen in the woods!

It’s funny now talking about it! But man did it knock the wind out of me…The funny thing is I shot a buck doing the same thing a few day later and it ran right by me just 1 row over just missing me!!!
That’s hilarious! At least you weren’t seriously hurt. I almost got ran over by a wild hog one time.
Jeff that is one great story. I bet Art is going to have a hard time beating that one, but then maybe he don’t want to beat it!
That is a great story! My brother shot a buck that almost ran into him, but I’ve never had a close encounter like that before!
Well, Jeff, I didn’t realize that deer hunting was so risky that you would have physical interaction with your particular target. “Are You Ready To Rumble”!!
I bet that is going to be hard to live that one down but, at least you were not hurt.
That is unreal! Too funny. I got hit the head once by a pintail that I shot and it came right down on me. Made me see stars! Great story.

Next, omg can I say I’ve never known anyone to actually get run over by a deer. That is just too funny.
