A Foxy Trailcam Picture

Info

fox.JPGA few days ago, I finally brought in my trailcam-since the battery was dead-and imported all the pictures off from it.  I got to looking through them and came across this particular picture.  It really was quite a shock to find this picture on the cam.  I haven’t seen a fox while hunting, or anytime for that matter, in quite some time.

When I was younger I used to see red foxes all the time when I was out hunting.  But now I honestly couldn’t tell you the last time I saw one.  I definitely hadn’t seen one on this particular property, so to have him wandering in front of the camera came as quite a surprise.

I just thought this was a pretty unique picture, and I wanted to share it with everyone.  I should also tell you that the area he is in is a community scrape area on property.  We have pictures of several different bucks and does at this one spot, and apparently the fox community in the property drops in for a visit every once in awhile as well.  Interesting, don’t you think?

So, all of you hunters out there reading this, do you still see fox in your hunting travels?

  • On the place we used to have leased there was a huge fox that would wander by my stand sometimes – we honestly thought he was a cross between a fox and a coyote because his fur was the beautiful red of a red fox but he was so big!

There are a couple families of them that live in the wooded areas around us so we see them pretty often.

  • I haven’t seen one around here in a long time. I used to see them quite a bit when I was a kid wandering our woods. We even had one that would come to the barn yard to eat the leftover cat food.

  • I’ve never seen a fox. Ummm, I’ve never been in the woods to see a fox.

  • I heard of a few foxes that hunt, Ruth, Jen, that chick from the outdoor channel.

  • Interesting…I wonder if the fox population is down across the nation, then? Fox populations seem to be way down over here…I’ve always attributed it to the fact that the coyote population is booming. I would think coyotes would take over a fox population as they eat the same stuff and live in the same areas…I dunno. Cool to see that on your trail cam, though. Would like to see them flourish again – pretty pelts on them.

  • That is a nice picture and a nice Fox. I have seen them occasionally, their pretty cool.

  • Here in No. California I’ve seen a few Kit Fox while out hunting ducks and/or pheasants. They are pretty interesting animals!

  • Our red fox population is way down since they like the old overgrown farms, but the woods-loving grays are everywhere. We even have one that lives in our backyard and comes out to eat the deer corn.
