Lack of Respect
With the new day breaking, I walked the bank of the Pere Marquette, looking for my first honey hole of the morning.  It was beautiful – the sun’s rays bouncing off the banks, bringing new life to the early spring forage - but, as I walked along, something on the trail ahead caught my eye. WTF? A beer can.  And another beer can.  I hate trash! It amazes me as to how little respect s...
First Hawaiian Island Adventure
For those of you that regularly follow Simply Outdoors'  blog you know that I recently relocated to Hawaii. It has been a hectic and crazy summer to say the least, but I did finally get to experience my first "island edition" outdoor excursion recently. Words and pictures probably won't give the experience its due justice, but here it goes anyways. The day trip was planned to consist of a hike...
Another Mounted Buck for Justin
Our SimplyOutdoor Pro Staffer, Justin, had a great deer season last year.  And if you need to be reminded as to how "great" it was, you can click here. But, even though all of us completely remember how great his season was, and because Justin is the complete jerk that he is, he likes to send pictures months after the season in order to continue to rub it in. The picture in this post is of ...
Primal Thoughts
The corn is shoulder high, farmers are harvesting their wheat crop already, tomorrow it is supposed to be ninety degrees, and yet all I can think about is fall. It’s always interesting to see what triggers the senses and summons that primal hunting urge within.  The corn stalks glistening in the morning sun caught my eye this morning, as well as the morning sun’s reflection on the tractor ...
Role Reversal
After stumbling across this picture, I'm starting to get a little concerned.  I know that bears inhabit many of the woods around us, and while their population may be small in my area of Michigan, if they are starting to get this smart I might need to be careful when scouting, hunting, or simply heading to my treestand. And, Mike, my fellow Michigan hunting blog friend and bear hunter, you and...

Someday We’ll have Recipes….maybe.

c1.jpgI think Jeff feels left out when it comes to the site.

For some reason he won’t write, because, as he says, he has good thoughts, but when he writes them down they just sound stupid.  I don’t know that for sure, because I’ve never read anything he has written, but that is his story and he is sticking to it.  I always include his hunting success on the site, especially since they usually outnumber mine.  And I have even managed to keep his 0 for 2 2008 bowhunting record quiet.  Whoops, until now I guess.

So, a few weeks, well actually, I think it has been months ago, Jeff called me and wanted to do a recipe page.  I thought that was a good idea, so I posted the page up and said that we would have recipes coming soon.  And I waited.  And waited some more.  And then waited some more.  No recipes.  I told him about it over and over, kept checking the page, and still no recipes on it.  I figured with his feelings of site loneliness and all, that given this opportunity, he would have been all over it.  He talked about putting up recipes, and having pictures included of the dish…..and still we had nothing.

Then I started getting emails:  When is the recipe page going to be up?  Are you ever going to put recipes on your page?  Not wanting to mess with Jeff’s stuff, considering his feelings of SimplyOutdoors inadequacy, I just made the page private so that no one could see it anymore, but he could still start messing with it if he wanted.  And I’ve waited.  And waited again.  Still nothing.

I think Jeff needs some encouragement to get his recipe page up and running.  So, to use a phrase from Miss Congeniality, “I think Jeff is a little scared.  He might need some applause”.

With a little encouragement maybe he will actually get the recipe page off the ground-because he does make some killer venison meals.

  1. Recipes are fun and they do tend to attract visitors.

Let’s get the recipe page up and running!

  2. Dear Jeff,

I would love to see a recipes page. You see, I am a terrible cook. I can’t follow my Mother and Grandmothers recipes when I have to add a little of this and a little of that.

Maybe with your help I might be able to put a dish together. Step-by-step instructions with pictures would help me a great deal.

And I think it would be a great addition to the blog.

    ok! ok!

I’ll get it started! But I have to quit missing deer so I can try other things!…it will be up soon…heck maybe i’m better at cooking than I am shooting my bow..lol

An applause or a kick in the butt? I’d never give my brother an applause, but a swift kick is a good brotherly motivator!

Seriously – I’d love to see/read about wild game recipes…it’s not something I talk about alot, because I’m not very good at it, but one of my passions is cooking. I love it – I just wish I was better at it than I am! So, how’s this:

Jeff! Jeff! Jeff! Jeff! Jeff! (as it gets louder and louder – you’ll have to imagine the foot stomp and the corresponding claps.)

I am just the opposite of Jeff or at least I think I am.

I get all tongue tied when I am talking to more than one person but, I feel I can write and get my point across without any problem what so ever.

  6. Come on Jeff we want recipes!!!!!! Don’t worry about what you write, I used to do the same thing when I first started. Now no one can shut me up!!!!! I don’t know if that is good or bad. Art be fore warned that if he starts writting he may take over the site!!! Now come on Jeff write us something! PLEASE!!!

  7. D says:

If you have a good thought and right it down, and it sounds stupid. Is it truly a good thought??

  8. Southcarolinian Michigander says:

All I can say is if Jeff tackles this whole recipe thing as good as he shoots his bow (while hunting I might add!)we are all in trouble! Hehehehe! Just kidding, Jeff. I can’t talk too much either. Oh, wait I did only have one poor shot though, not three like someone else I know:)

  9. Jeff. If it is any consolation to you, most writers think that they have nothing to write about or that nobody is interested in what they have to say, or that what they write sounds stupid. It’s a dilemma we all have to overcome, sometimes every day of our lives.

So now get on with it and write that recipe page so I can try them out. I love food and never tire of trying out new recipes…. I am waiting!!!! :)

A recipe page would be great! I have some recipes to share if you’re intersted. Venison is all we eat. I’ve really learned to cook it well. :)
