Huntin’ Time Expo/My Lack of Posts
It's absolutely no secret that I've been neglectful of this blog lately. Some evidence: I never posted a few of the deer that Justin shot. I didn't post anything about Jeff, Barry, Erin, and Josh heading down to the ATA show in Columbus a little over a week ago. And I've never posted anything about the fact that SimplyOutdoors TV will be airing on the Pursuit Channel starting in January 2...
End of Deer Season: Maybe I Stink
Last night I cleaned my muzzleloader.  And though I usually love the feeling that comes with cleaning any firearm, last night's cleaning kind of depressed me a little, because it was a sure sign that another deer season had passed and that I had once again went through an entire season without putting any venison in the freezer. As I was cleaning and reflecting back on the last couple of seaso...
Bittersweet Hunt: The Rest of the Story
In my previous post, I eluded to the fact that my miss last Sunday morning was only the beginning of a very memorable morning.  Here is the "rest of the story". After my miss, it was still only a little after 8am, so Jeff and I decided that we might as well stick it out for a little while and see if any other deer decided they wanted to eat out of his food plot. And that is when the weirdne...
Bittersweet Hunt
Though I had only been able to hunt a handful of times, the fact remained that I hadn't laid eyes on a deer since around October 8th.  It was making it pretty difficult to head into the woods, because I honestly wasn't sure if I was ever going to see a deer again; I was starting to wonder if I had a deer whistle permanently embedded within my body that was preventing them from coming within a hal...
Another Deer for Jeff
While I don't have much to celebrate when it comes to deer hunting, after tonight I can bask in at least one thing:  that I told Jeff about Hornady SST's, and that, because of my wisdom, Jeff was able to put down this big doe without fear of his bullet coming apart. Congrats to Jeff.  Welcome to the dark side, and say goodbye to Powerbelts.

Some Stories From the Field.

Since I can’t hunt–well I guess I can hunt, but at this point in time I’m choosing not too, I figured I would share a few stories from individuals who are getting outside.

Jeff hasn’t went much this week, and a few nights ago he got blanked.  I know he hasn’t been feeling well too, so I’m not sure how much he will get out this weekend, but I will let you know.

My sister’s boyfriend saw a monster last night.  He is not sure what happened, but the buck ended up splitting before he offered him a shot.  He is still wondering what made him spook, and is counting on the rut at this point to bring him back in.  Hopefully that is the case.  They do tend to get a severe case of stupid when that rut comes around.

One of my buddies had a close encounter with a little six point the other night.  He has yet to shoot his first archery deer, but this one wouldn’t cooperate and take the few necessary steps he needed him to in order to take the shot.  That is the way it goes sometimes, and hopefully sometime in the near future he gets another opportunity.

As for me, I’m writing this post while little Abby sleeps next to me on one of her pillows.  This is the nightly ritual lately, and it gives her mom some time to get some sleep before she needs to feed again.  With all of these things going on, and with mom not being able to drive for a little while, it pretty much limits me when it comes to hunting.  I might be able to sneak out this weekend, but only time will tell.  As I said in a previous post, I have plenty of time still left to hunt.

Hopefully soon we will have some success stories to share.  When we do I will be sure and let you know.  I also might sneak out and put the trailcam out this weekend, so in the next few weeks-when the weather really starts to cool down, and mom can drive again, that Abby’s daddy will know where to go to find those big bucks.

I am sure you will venture out at some point. It is an admiral thing to update on others status and you might not think but it is helping you as well.

Before long you will be taking little Abby with you to the deer stand. :) They can grow up so fast. Having four daughters of my own, it’s hard to believe that they are all grown and gone. At least one of them enjoys the sport of hunting. Take care of the little one and hope your wife will be back on her feet real soon. By the way, my husband is from Michigan also..Dearborn. :)
