Back in the Wild Again

Info

“There I was, back in the wild again.   And I felt right at home, where I belonged.

bowhunterinsun.jpgI think any of you who hunt will recognize those lyrics.  They are the beginning of “Fred Bear” by Ted Nugent, and they completely describe how I will be feeling tomorrow night; the first night of the year that I get to sit in a treestand, slow down, relax, and take in my surroundings.

I could be writing a post about some legislative issues I just found out about, or I could be writing a post about Shiloh, but I figured the only appropriate post topic for today would involve the hunt.   What could possibly be more important to talk about at this point in time?  I, for one, can’t think of anything better.

All day today-while I’m slaving away at work-I will be thinking about tonight.  The slow methodical process of putting on gear; the slow walk back to the treestand; the ritual that is involved in order to get ready once in the stand, and most importantly the whole experience of sitting, waiting, appreciating, and relaxing.   It is spiritual and I can’t wait to get back where I belong.

The day will be long, but there will be comfort knowing, that come tonight, I will be able to head out to where I love to be; out in the wild.  What could be better than that?

“The spirit of the woods is like an old good friend, makes me feel warm and good inside.”

Note:  Jeff did head out today.  He hunted this morning, and him and his son hunted tonight.  I wish I had a kill to report, but unfortunately I don’t.  They did have an encounter this morning with one doe, but it just wasn’t quite light enough for Jeff to take the shot.  Oh well, we still have today and the whole weekend to try again.  I will let you know how we come out.
