Abby’s first trip to the Zoo
With summer winding down, and hunting season close to kicking into full gear, the wife and I really wanted to do one last - purely for Abby - activity.   Then, one night while reading one of her favorite books, I instantly knew where we were heading - the zoo. Abby loves to read books involving animals, and she loves to name the animals as we read through the books.  She loves all the animal...
Moving stands, checking cams: No outfitter needed!
When I'm watching outdoor television, there is nothing that gets under my skin more than hearing the person in front of the camera say something like this: "Well......we're on our way to Battle Creek Outfitters to hunt for a few days. Jim, of BC Outfitters, has been watching a few bucks during the year, so hopefully we'll have a chance at one of them in the next few days. We're gonna get a sh...
The Aftermath
It rained on July 4th. And while the rain was a welcome relief to the retreating soldiers, as well as the victorious ones, it was not welcomed by the local residents of the little Pennsylvania town.  It came down in sheets, soaking the unburied bodies still on the field - some with hands folded, and others with clenched fists; it inhibited the Army of Northern Virginia's retreat across the Pot...
Nature: Life in Stereo
As the beginning notes of Round Here made contact with my auricles, I was in heaven; I had forgotten how incredible my Bose earphones were.  I could hear every instrument in the song - the chords on the guitar; the intricate timing of the cymbals and snare; the keyboard quietly playing in the background.  It was as if I was experiencing the song for the first time, though I had heard it many tim...
First Show
The SimplyOutdoors' crew had a great time over the weekend - we got to converse with quite a few local Michigan residents, and we had a great time doing so.  It's always fun sharing stories with local hunters - and it was even fun talking with the non-hunters. We were definitely happy to see the weather hold out for us, too.  There was a chance of thunderstorms throughout the entire day, but,...

More Positive Trailcam Results

Posted By: Arthur on September 15, 2008 in Deer Cam Pictures, Hunting - Comments: 5 Comments »

mdgc0023.jpgIt was another great weekend for trailcam pictures.  I guess, technically, it was a great two weeks.  I didn’t get out to check it last weekend, so it has been out for two straight weeks.  That ended up paying off though.

The first picture I was pleased with, was the picture of this buck.  I know he isn’t huge, but honestly, he is probably bigger than any buck I’ve ever shot.  I think he is probably two and a half, and I also think, that if he comes any where near my treestand during the season, that he is going to get it.

His rack is also very unique as well.  It doesn’t appear to have a brow tine on one side, and it also forks on the one side.  A pretty unique rack that I wouldn’t mind adding to my collection.  The problem I can see with this whole plan, is the fact that he was moving at night.  Hopefully, I encounter him in the daytime somewhere.

mdgc0041.jpgI also got this little guy on the cam as well.  He’s a really tall spike, and given the opportunity, I would definitely let this little guy go.  You just never know what he could eventually turn into.  His rack is kind of unique as well.  Maybe I will have an encounter with him this year.  If I do though, I will let him move on his way and just enjoy the encounter.

The cam had a variety of things on it over the two weeks.  We had turkeys, deer, and squirrels.  A lot of variety to the pictures, and I was definitely glad I left it out for a couple of weeks so that it had the opportunity to take the picture of the buck at the start of this post.

I braved the pouring rain to check the cams, and I’m glad I did.  The results were well worth it.

Well if you encounter either of those deer while you are hunting I’m sure we’ll hear about it!

Oh, I wish the rain would stop for awhile!

  2. Rick says:

There is steaks on the hoof right there. Good luck hunting and keep those pictures coming.

  3. Oh the excitement of trail cam pictures.

Good pictures! Sadie and I have had one on one encounters with some young bucks that look a lot
like your first picture. Saw one that looked like he was starting to shed his velvet. Exciting stuff.:)

Great shots. And I would shoot either one if they came in bow range since I haven’t shot anything with an arrow.
However I would be interested to see the jawbone of the bigger racked deer if you kill it. It may be a yearling too. I don’t see much difference in body characteristics between the two deer.
