Texas is still so hot and muggy right now. I can't wait for mid October and the weather to change. I am really looking forward to hunting season and getting this baby havin' behind me.

How's your wife doing?

Just yesterday evening, enjoying a glass of whisky on the front porch, I said to my wife, “Can you smell it, fall is coming!”

You’re right, besides the anticipation of the upcoming hunting season there is a certain smell in the air announcing the arrival fall.

For as long as I can think fall has been my favorite time of year. When the leaves change color from monotonous green to a rainbow of different colors, crop fields turn golden yellow and the morning mist dances gracefully in the air current then it is pure magic to be in outdoors.

And then there are of course all the past hunting memories with parents and friends reaching back almost a lifetime connected with the fall. Add to this the anticipation of new memories to be made just around the corner and everyone will understand why the fall is magic for the outdoors person.

I completely understand. I haven't experienced my first fall air, yet over here, but I have gotten my first fall smell of the year, though - and that is a start! It's got to be coming right around the corner...seriously, I had chills reading that post - it got me all excited!! Glad to hear other places have already progressed to Fall air!

I do know exactly what you mean. The smell in the air, the change in wind currents, the way the small critters like squirrels and chipmunks are running around. I too can just close my eye's and be somewhere in my tree stand.

It's a great feeling

Most definitely a primal feeling, comes from within. The practice of hunting becomes engrained and we start looking for markers in the season to indicate when it is time to do it once more. ;)

A week ago tomorrow evening I saw a buck in velvet in the company of a doe. Then the other morning, before the light had come up all the way, I saw three deer,2 of which appeared to have antlers. Seeing things or is it "Buck Fever"?
