You never realize how much you use electricity until it is gone. We have been without power since yesterday afternoon and finally got the power turned back on around 9:30 tonight. I’m glad we camp so that we had the necessary items to make it through. I’m also glad that we live in the city so that we still had water as well. It was a minor inconvenience and I’m glad that it is over.
This weekend was crazy. We had three solid days of thunderstorms, along with a rash of tornado warnings in our area. I’m not really sure what is going on around Michigan lately. When I was growing up it was never like this, and then in the last couple of years the storms have been tearing right into us. My sisters had a tree fall onto their house yesterday, and as a result of that, they are staying in a different rental until that rental house gets fixed. My family just can’t catch a break–pretty soon I’m going to start distancing myself from them. I think there might be some bad juju going on.
I promise to get back to some normal posts in the next couple of days. We did end up checking the trailcam this weekend and had some decent results with that. We also went to a little outdoor show that helped us to discover something very cool, and that I will show all of you in the next few days.
So for now we are just happy to be back in the land of electricity, and stay tuned to the next few days for some fun outdoor-related stuff. I promise it is coming!

Glad to see you are back up and running. We’ve had the same storms. A tornado touched down about 5 miles from us and was headed our way. Thankfully it never did.
Glad your power is back, I know what you mean about not being use to something until it is gone.
I think the storms are gradually going to get worse with global warming going on. Changes are coming unfortunately. We might not see them all but our kids probably will.
Good to have you back!
We lost power on Sunday, I was off work yesterday, so I was not able to keep up with what else was going on. Consumers Energy says we will probably be without power until Wednesday at 11:00 PM. and we don’t live in the village so we have no water.
Oh well, we’ve done it before, and I’m sure it won’t be the last.
I’m glad you got your electricity back and that no one was hurt when the tree fell on the house. It has been as stormy summer so far. We need the rain, but as far as I’m concerned the severe storms can take a hike.
When I was a kid, I used to love power outages – and they were frequent! We lived way out in the country, and there was a big industrial plant a couple miles from us that ran on the same line – and they were constantly causing power outages for the local ranches. I loved the candle light nights. But, that was when I was a kid with no responsibilities! I’m not so fond of them any more.
Glad that the tornado warnings ended as just that – warnings. Hope your lives are able to return to normal, now. Sorry for your sisters – distancing yourself may not work so well, though – from what I hear, Karma travels pretty well.
We had phone line problems yesterday, and I couldn’t get online for a few hours. I was going nuts… so I am sure you were having withdrawals not being able to get to your site. Glad everything is back to normal for you, but it sounds like you should avoid the rest of the family for a while
And we had all better get used to no power if gas/oil prices continue to rise. I know in many places in Central America they use generators and only turn them on an hour or two a day to run water. We may be headed that way soon…
I think the power outages might be headed our way this evening, we have some storms coming through later, they say a chance of tornados, but I think they like to over react here sometimes. I don’t think its going to be fun in 98 degree weather without an AC though, yikes! guess we’ll be camping tonight!
Good to see the electricity is back on for you. We have spent some brief periods in the last 5 days without it as well.
Bad weather seems to be a daily event here too. Will be glad when all of us can say “ALL CLEAR!”
