Huntin’ Time Expo/My Lack of Posts
It's absolutely no secret that I've been neglectful of this blog lately. Some evidence: I never posted a few of the deer that Justin shot. I didn't post anything about Jeff, Barry, Erin, and Josh heading down to the ATA show in Columbus a little over a week ago. And I've never posted anything about the fact that SimplyOutdoors TV will be airing on the Pursuit Channel starting in January 2...
End of Deer Season: Maybe I Stink
Last night I cleaned my muzzleloader.  And though I usually love the feeling that comes with cleaning any firearm, last night's cleaning kind of depressed me a little, because it was a sure sign that another deer season had passed and that I had once again went through an entire season without putting any venison in the freezer. As I was cleaning and reflecting back on the last couple of seaso...
Bittersweet Hunt: The Rest of the Story
In my previous post, I eluded to the fact that my miss last Sunday morning was only the beginning of a very memorable morning.  Here is the "rest of the story". After my miss, it was still only a little after 8am, so Jeff and I decided that we might as well stick it out for a little while and see if any other deer decided they wanted to eat out of his food plot. And that is when the weirdne...
Bittersweet Hunt
Though I had only been able to hunt a handful of times, the fact remained that I hadn't laid eyes on a deer since around October 8th.  It was making it pretty difficult to head into the woods, because I honestly wasn't sure if I was ever going to see a deer again; I was starting to wonder if I had a deer whistle permanently embedded within my body that was preventing them from coming within a hal...
Another Deer for Jeff
While I don't have much to celebrate when it comes to deer hunting, after tonight I can bask in at least one thing:  that I told Jeff about Hornady SST's, and that, because of my wisdom, Jeff was able to put down this big doe without fear of his bullet coming apart. Congrats to Jeff.  Welcome to the dark side, and say goodbye to Powerbelts.

weekend-1.jpgI know it is only Tuesday, but I’m already trying to make my plans for the weekend. There are a few things in the works and hopefully I can work all of them in and make the weekend a good one.

First off, for all of you Michiganders, Gander Mountain is having its Biggest Archery Event Ever at the Lansing Gander Mountain this weekend. This is a huge tent event and will include a 3-d Archery shoot, 100 vendors, door prizes, free seminars, a bargain tent, and a silent auction. There is suppose to be a representative from Diamond bows there, and since I purchased my Black Ice last year, I would love to visit with them and see what they have to say. Maybe they will even be nice enough to throw a few goodies my way. I might even run into Mike Adams, from UpNorthJournal, and the Hooks and Bullets blog. I know he is going to be in attendance and doing some interviews for one of his future podcasts. Hopefully our paths cross. That would be pretty cool!

The next thing I have planned for the weekend is to check the trail cam. I finally put it back out last weekend, in a spot that it has never been before, and I’m excited to see what kind of results we get. We didn’t hunt this area last year either, because I was slightly in error of where the property lines went. Once the landowner set us straight towards the end of last year though, I knew that I would be sticking a trail cam up in the area and seeing what we found. Jeff and I can’t wait to hunt this area this fall. It should be a prime spot. Hopefully a few growing antlers show up on it this weekend.

The last thing on the weekend agenda is my cousins house warming party. A few of you might remember them from last August when their house was hit by the tornado. Well they are finally getting back to normal and having a little get-together to say thank you to everyone who helped them get back up on their feet. I’m glad that things have returned to normal for them, and I can’t wait to be able to hang out with everyone under much different circumstances then the last time. It should be a great time.

So a great weekend coming up, and in the meantime I hope to get some grass planted in the backyard this week. The weather report is not looking to agreeable for that little adventure though. Now if Friday would only get here!

  1. Sounds like a busy weekend and hopefully it doesn’t rain too much. I am so ready for the weekend and it is only Tuesday.

Sounds like you got lots to look forward to! And I don’t even know what I’m doing tomorrow!:)

I’m jealous that archery event sounds awesome!

  4. Thanks for the plug, I hope we do get a chance to hook up at the event saturday. It proves to be a good time. On another note, I saw you wrote about your cousin’s house getting hit last August. Would that have been the tornado that hit the Fenton Area on the 24th? If so, I was in it with my son at the High School at Lake Fenton. It was his 13th birthday and we were getting ready to shoot video for the high school football game, what a night. Glad your cousins are all ok now.

  5. Rick says:

I know how you feel when you try to fit almost a whole week into two days. I wish you luck and enjoy yourself.
I started a new project so I know how you feel.

It does sound like a great weekend!
Looking forward to hearing about your Gander Mountain excursion and meeting up with Mike Adams.

That is positive news about your cousin’s house warming party. Bet they are glad the experience of having to rebuild is in the past.

Really looking forward to seeing what you will find on the trail camera. My cameras have started having some problems. Have to see if it is simply battery power that is the difficulty or something more serious. ;)
