Huntin’ Time Expo/My Lack of Posts
It's absolutely no secret that I've been neglectful of this blog lately. Some evidence: I never posted a few of the deer that Justin shot. I didn't post anything about Jeff, Barry, Erin, and Josh heading down to the ATA show in Columbus a little over a week ago. And I've never posted anything about the fact that SimplyOutdoors TV will be airing on the Pursuit Channel starting in January 2...
End of Deer Season: Maybe I Stink
Last night I cleaned my muzzleloader.  And though I usually love the feeling that comes with cleaning any firearm, last night's cleaning kind of depressed me a little, because it was a sure sign that another deer season had passed and that I had once again went through an entire season without putting any venison in the freezer. As I was cleaning and reflecting back on the last couple of seaso...
Bittersweet Hunt: The Rest of the Story
In my previous post, I eluded to the fact that my miss last Sunday morning was only the beginning of a very memorable morning.  Here is the "rest of the story". After my miss, it was still only a little after 8am, so Jeff and I decided that we might as well stick it out for a little while and see if any other deer decided they wanted to eat out of his food plot. And that is when the weirdne...
Bittersweet Hunt
Though I had only been able to hunt a handful of times, the fact remained that I hadn't laid eyes on a deer since around October 8th.  It was making it pretty difficult to head into the woods, because I honestly wasn't sure if I was ever going to see a deer again; I was starting to wonder if I had a deer whistle permanently embedded within my body that was preventing them from coming within a hal...
Another Deer for Jeff
While I don't have much to celebrate when it comes to deer hunting, after tonight I can bask in at least one thing:  that I told Jeff about Hornady SST's, and that, because of my wisdom, Jeff was able to put down this big doe without fear of his bullet coming apart. Congrats to Jeff.  Welcome to the dark side, and say goodbye to Powerbelts.

Big News!

daddysgirlcamo.JPGI mentioned, in a post the other day, that we had an ultrasound appointment on Thursday afternoon to make sure how the baby was doing, and also to find out what we were having.  Well that appointment did happen yesterday, and as I promised Jody in the comments section, I’m going to share what we are having.

I don’t think I need to say anything else.  I think all of you can figure out from the picture what we are going to have.  The wife and I couldn’t be happier.  We had a feeling that it was going to be a girl, and low-and-behold, it is!  We are so excited!

The ultrasound went great.  Everything looks normal.   We also got to see fingers, toes, chin, eyes, her mouth move, feet, legs, butt, you name it.  Those ultrasound machines are awesome.    The heartbeat was great and everything went very well.  We’re happy that we’re having a girl, but more importantly, we’re happy that everything is good and she looks very healthy.

The wife was already on the internet looking at baby furniture last night.  We are in full swing on getting the baby room ready now as well.  Makes it a lot more exciting, because now we can actually buy stuff.

It is going to be one great ride I’m sure!

We can’t wait!

Olivia, Lexi, Celia, Annie–hmmm—what should we name her?

  1. A Girl! How exciting and I love the pink! I love the name Autumn for a girl.

  2. Oh, that’s so cool! I know she will be Daddy’s Girl right from the start. I’m so glad everything looks good and is going well.

As for names, that’s a hard one. I tend to like more old fashioned names like Victoria or Elizabeth. Isabella is pretty but it gets shortened to Izzy, which I don’t like. You guys will probably have some thinking to do about that question.

  3. Justin says:

Congrats on the upcoming baby girl!

  4. Jeff says:

That is wonderful news! Looking at the ultrasound is truly an amazing experience no matter what sex they tell you your wife is having. And preparing the baby room is always an exciting time…
As for the name, make sure and give her something that will fit her and her guaranteed love of the outdoors. I like Jody’s choice of Autumn. Just double check the local men’s club’s employee roster so that you don’t jinx her with a name like Mercedes, Diamond or Lexus! LOL

  5. Tom Sorenson says:

Awesome! Congrats, Mom and Dad to be! I can only imagine how awesome that ultrasound must be…to listen to the little heartbeat and everything. very cool!

  6. Adam says:

That is awesome! Congrats! Having a child is such a blessing.

  7. Blessed says:

A Girl – How Awesome!!! I love the name Madeline, my husband had another idea for our first little girl (an unusual name that we both love – email me and I’ll give it to you!) but if we had another I’d want to name her Madeline Grace :)

  8. CDGardens says:

That experience with the ultra-sound was pretty special. Congratulations to you and Jen on your baby girl!

Whatever name you choose will be just right.

  9. Rick says:

That is awesome news and I give you two thumbs up on the outfit.

If I had a choice on one of those names you mentioned than I would haver to choose “Lexi”

  10. Eagle Eyes says:

Great news is right!! Happy for both of you. I tried to think of something that goes along with your blog site name, but, just couldn’t get anything to click. Maybe it is my age!!!

  11. Congrats, I can still remember all four of our kids’ ultrasounds! What an exciting time. With both of our daughters I tried to use Fawn or Brooke for names, My wife didn’t go for it though. My wife’s last name was Trout, no kidding! So I thought Brooke would have been a natural fit! She didn’t buy it.

  12. Ok, Fawn and Brooke is too cute! Ha!

  13. Phillip says:

    Arthur, that’s awesome!

Congrats on the new hunting partner (or whatever she chooses to be)!

Oh, and Mike… Brooke Trout? Too bloody funny… but I can see how the wife might’ve had a problem with that.
