Arthur,
Sounds like a catch 22... You guys need to kill some of those does to help fix the buck to doe ratio as well as reduce the herd to match the carrying capacity of the land. However, like you point out, it may affect your rut; and by that I guess you mean by creating extra hunting pressure.
However while that is possible, it may also work to help the rut! Because by narrowing the buck to doe ratio, you create MORE competition among the bucks trying to breed the reduced number of does, thereby increasing buck movement.
You also need to look at this in the long term, not just to next season. By greatly reducing the does next year, your hunting should be much better in the following years.
But like you said, the plan is not a done deal and there is still time to get them to move the dates around. However, no matter what time period they choose, a special doe hunt sounds like it is still very much needed.
Also I will be waiting on those new trail cam pics... and congratulations on your first FAMILY outing the other day.

I agree that it seems to be an odd time of year to have an antlerless hunt. Our midwestern state's deer seasons seem to work really well:

Archery: Mid Sept - Mid Jan
Youth Rifle: Early Nov
Regular Season: Mid to Late Nov
Black Powder Season: Early Dec
Antlerless Season: Mid Dec
Roadkill Season: all year long...
