On a Positive Note

March 17th, 2008

img_0690.jpgWith my rant yesterday about commercial flights, I figured today would be a good time to cover a positive experience that we had in Texas.  This positive experience also directly relates to the outdoors, so that is a benefit as well, considering this is suppose to be an outdoor related site!

While we were in Texas we were lucky enough to stay in an Embassy Suites.  This hotel was amazing, and conveniently enough had a Bass Pro Shops connected to it.  You heard me right-A high class hotel with a Bass Pro Shops connected to it.  You would’ve thought I’d died and gone to heaven.  What luck we must have?  It was just God’s way of making up for our flights I think.

We have a Bass Pro here in Michigan, but I am here to tell you that it doesn’t hold a candle to the one in Texas.  The Texas one was way bigger and had a lot more merchandise.  I am still on the fence, but I think that it is even better then the Cabela’s we have here in Michigan.  I know that is hard to believe, but the whole place was just incredible and the way it was laid out made it that much better.

Cabela’s seems to be a little crowded to me, and the open-ness of the Bass Pro Shop was what set it apart.  The displays and everything were awesome, and the way they were laid out just made the whole tone of the place much more relaxed.

We spent two different nights in the store and I can tell you that I could have went back again, and I’m sure I didn’t see everything they had to offer.  If the Bass Pro Shop up here was anything like this one I would definitely be there more often.

So if any of you are in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and you need a good outdoor store experience, swing by the Bass Pro Shop there.  It is so worth your time and when you get done they have a Big Buck Brewery right next door.

My wife and I love Bass Pro too. As a matter of fact it was the very first place we took each of our boys once they were old enough to leave the house. If I remember correctly, they were probably only 6 or 8 weeks old…
And after all of the trouble with your flights, you should have demanded a free round trip ticket as compensation. Then you could have come on down to hunt and blamed your inability to get home on the airlines.

    Jeff,

Now that last part sounds like an idea!

  3. We have our famous Cabelas about 2 miles from the house and Bass Pro about 25 miles away. Been to both on a regular basis!

With Cabela’s only 30 minutes, 45 if traffic is heavy from my house and Bass Pro being approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours away you can pretty much figure which one I go to.

I prefer Cabela’s though over Bass Pro only because of my past experiences doing business with both.

  5. We have a Bass Pro Shops almost near us! When ever we are out that way, we make a point of stopping in. It is a great store!

We have a Bass Pro coming within 25 minutes drive from home in the future, just a bare field at the location presently…The judge is still out on the verdict with all the big and little suppliers available in the area.

Scheel’s does have a better thumb on the pulse of spaciousness than Cabela’s in my opinion.
