Huntin’ Time Expo/My Lack of Posts
It's absolutely no secret that I've been neglectful of this blog lately. Some evidence: I never posted a few of the deer that Justin shot. I didn't post anything about Jeff, Barry, Erin, and Josh heading down to the ATA show in Columbus a little over a week ago. And I've never posted anything about the fact that SimplyOutdoors TV will be airing on the Pursuit Channel starting in January 2...
End of Deer Season: Maybe I Stink
Last night I cleaned my muzzleloader.  And though I usually love the feeling that comes with cleaning any firearm, last night's cleaning kind of depressed me a little, because it was a sure sign that another deer season had passed and that I had once again went through an entire season without putting any venison in the freezer. As I was cleaning and reflecting back on the last couple of seaso...
Bittersweet Hunt: The Rest of the Story
In my previous post, I eluded to the fact that my miss last Sunday morning was only the beginning of a very memorable morning.  Here is the "rest of the story". After my miss, it was still only a little after 8am, so Jeff and I decided that we might as well stick it out for a little while and see if any other deer decided they wanted to eat out of his food plot. And that is when the weirdne...
Bittersweet Hunt
Though I had only been able to hunt a handful of times, the fact remained that I hadn't laid eyes on a deer since around October 8th.  It was making it pretty difficult to head into the woods, because I honestly wasn't sure if I was ever going to see a deer again; I was starting to wonder if I had a deer whistle permanently embedded within my body that was preventing them from coming within a hal...
Another Deer for Jeff
While I don't have much to celebrate when it comes to deer hunting, after tonight I can bask in at least one thing:  that I told Jeff about Hornady SST's, and that, because of my wisdom, Jeff was able to put down this big doe without fear of his bullet coming apart. Congrats to Jeff.  Welcome to the dark side, and say goodbye to Powerbelts.

The Announcement

Posted By: Arthur on March 6, 2008 in Arthur's Kids, Kids - Comments: 18 Comments »

I have known the information I’m about to share for a couple of weeks now.  To be completely honest it has been absolutely killing me that I couldn’t share it with everyone.  If I had my way I would have been posting this little tidbit of information the day after I found out, but I knew that wasn’t the best way to go about it.  Now that we have verfication though, I feel it is time.  So without further adoo…

After trying for what seemed like an eternity, but was only about a year, and almost giving up, I am happy to say that I am going to be able to share all of my outdoor experiences with a little one of my own.  In case you missed it, what I’m saying is we’re pregnant!!!!!!

I am so completely excited.  I can hardly contain myself to be honest.  This is something that the wife and I have been wanting for quite a while and we were starting to think that maybe it wasn’t going to happen, but god proved us wrong once again.  Did I mention I’m soooo excited?

I love that now I will be able to have a chance to share in the experiences that JeffKris, and plenty of other bloggers have had.  It seemed I was always leaving comments on different sites about how I couldn’t wait to have kids so that I could share my love of the outdoors with them.  Well guess what?  Now I can and it is so awesome.

I am a little nervous too, but that is to be expected.  I just can’t wait to have a kid of my own and be able to pass down the things that I love so much.  A little buddy to take fishing, hunting, and everywhere else we decide to go.  I truly can’t believe it is happening and it is a dream come true.

Right now I have to be honest and say that I’m rooting for a girl, but I will take whatever comes my way.  I have a feeling it is a girl, but we will just have to wait and see.  We went to our first doctor’s appointment tonight and the due date is October 18th.  A fall baby and that is sooooo sweet!  I’m like a little kid at Christmas.  I just can’t help it.

So I am sorry I teased everyone yesterday and I hope I didn’t disappoint.  My post was completely true though, because our mission statement does involve kids and we always try and gets kids involved and this news just takes that to a whole new level.

SimplyOutdoors will never be the same and I am absolutely fine with that.  Jenn and I are going to appreciate every minute of it!

Having children is truly one of life’s biggest blessings, so I am stoked that you will get to experience it. And we ended up with two boys, but I always said that it didn’t matter to me… as long as they were healthy, that was all I could ask.

Congratulations! Plan on hunting as much as you can before Oct. 18 because you can forget about the rest of the season. But seriously, that’s great news.

I’m willing to guess that everyone is a little nervous at first, but I know you and Jenn will be great parents. I can’t wait to read all your stories about introducing your son or daughter to the outdoors. How cool will that be?

I’m excited for you both. Make sure you give us frequent updates.

By the way, are you going to find out if it is a boy or a girl before the baby comes?

As a proud mom and grandmother–having children is the best thing that will happen to you–except for a few months when you never get any sleep; and when they’re teenagers, when you never know what will happen next. As everyone will tell you, your life will never be the same–but you know that, that’s why you want children! Congratulations.
