Michigan-Woeful Wonderland
Alright, so I’m not being serious in the title of this post, but sometimes I wonder about this state in which I live. I know a lot of people have been talking about having cabin fever and I can relate. I’m not saying I have cabin fever, because I do manage to get outside, but it seems just when things are starting to come around we get another 6 inches or so of snow dumped on us. Will it ever end?
I would love to have my trailcam out, but it is so cold that the batteries don’t last for more than a week. I would love to write a post about the turkey hunt that I drew, but that information doesn’t become available until this weekend. I would love to go to the property I hunt and scout for deer, but with the foot or so of snow that is on the ground I would need snow shoes to even begin to walk the property. The deep snow will also alter the movement patterns of the deer and make scouting at this time of year useless.
I have managed to beat the winter blahs by heading to an outdoor show, rabbit hunting, attending big buck night, and managing to get outside and play with the dog, but when it comes to true outdoor activity it has been few and far between. When will the melt off begin? Will it ever get here? When will spring arrive?
Hopefully in a month or so we will get enough ambition to head up and start trying to find some fresh chrome(steelhead) in a few of the rivers not far from us. Hopefully in a few days I will know what turkey hunt I drew. Hopefully in a month or two all of this white stuff will be gone and the new days of spring will begin to arrive. Hopefully, hopefully, hopefully.
Then I can get my trail cam out and do some scouting and not be so envious of Jeff at Lowcountryhunting. I can actually scout the property I am so fortunate to hunt, and find the prime turkey and deer hunting areas. I can get outside and feel the air when it is actually above 30 degrees. I can hunt and fish and enjoy life.
Normally winter doesn’t bug me so much but this year I am craving spring something fierce. Until it gets here though I will relax, attend OutdoorRama this weekend, and enjoy another outdoor show with some out of state family visitors we will have staying at our house. Maybe that will help me get through the next month until I can wet a line, put up a trailcam, scout, and load a gun in preparation for a morning turkey hunt. Maybe, just maybe!

Oh, I can relate… come on spring hurry up and get here!
I do understand about what you are expressing. Being outdoors usually becomes more precious when we aren’t able to do it.
My trail cameras have been posted here on the front and back door steps when the weather is relatively warm. The only time they go off is when the batteries are warm enough. One of the camera lenses did get a layer of ice(on the north-side of the house) and the one on the south seems to remain continously iceless due to thermal heating. I hope to get the cameras back out to the timber in a week or so.
Hang in there! Spring is on the way.
We haven’t had as much snow as some of the other towns in our area. Look at it this way, being indoors gives you plenty of time to blog.
First you and I wrote posts with the same title; then we write about essentially the same thing today. Spooky!
Of course, as I say in my “ready for spring” post, winter in Virginia is nothing compared to what you’re going through. Good luck with it!
Oops! I guess it was Kris that had the same title for a post as me. My bad.
I think this winter has gotten to us a bit more because we’ve had a lot more snow and it started a lot earlier than the few years previous. I’m with you, I’m ready to have it be over with.
I can relate to you. Just two days ago the weather finally changed and the sun came out. As for hunting shows we still have to wait for two weeks until the big one opens the doors. Spring turkey season is still a month away.
Lucky me has no time for cabin fever as I am busy preparing and organizing dates for upcoming seminars.
