A Whole New Hunting Mind
Recently I've been reading Daniel Pinks', A Whole New Mind, and it's quite intriguing.  It came as recommended reading from my boss at work, and I was intrigued by the concept of the book right from the start. Basically, the idea behind the book is that most of us - from a young age - are instructed to pursue left-brained careers - computer programming and accounting to name a few - when, actu...
SOTV: ‘09 Turkey Hunts
Last year, Jeff and I were both successful in our turkey hunting pursuits - Jeff shot a nice jake, and I shot my first bird - a jake - as well.  And we were lucky enough to capture both of those hunts on film too. I love sharing these videos with all of you, and I love them for selfish reasons as well.  It's just great to, not only be able to re-live the moment in your mind, but also to be ab...
Sponsor On-Board
It's been one heck of a month here at SimplyOutdoors, and it just keeps getting better.  I'm very proud and pleased to announce that we have our first sponsor - Cottage Craft Works. Cottage Craft Works make all kinds of unique things - hand-made furniture, fishing lures, custom gun stocks, toys and, of course, my personal favorite, hunting calls.  They make box calls, slate calls, owl hoots, ...
Walks: Getting Outside Anyway We Can
Sure, a lot of the sidewalks are a muddy mess, and a few of them are quite treacherous - ice-covered and very slick from the snow that has melted during the day and then re-froze at night.  But that hasn't kept the wife, Abby, or myself from enjoying a walk the last couple evenings. It's interesting this time of the year as well.  On one end it's great to see the snow disappearing and the sta...
Michigan’s Changing of the Seasons
I walked out the back door yesterday afternoon - to take out the trash - and I was promptly met by spring.  This weekend the weather has been unbelievable, especially considering that we were ice fishing just last weekend; we hit the 50 degree mark yesterday, and we're supposed to be in the high 40's, low 50's all week this week.  So much for ice fishing, I guess. What I experienced this week...

Camping-Back to the simple life

Posted By: Arthur on February 19, 2008 in camping - Comments: 4 Comments »

100_1667.jpgWith it being so cold and nasty out around here lately, I have been really thinking about spring, the nicer weather, and one of the things that we enjoy during spring and throughout the summer; camping.

I have been camping since I was a little kid.  Our parents used to take us to quite a few different places to camp, have a fun weekend away from the house, and get away from all of the fast-paced necessities of normal everyday life.  Camping as a kid was always a blast, and I used to look forward to it a lot, and it seemed the days slowed way down right before the trip.

The wife and I still enjoy camping with family, friends, and co-workers and we try to do it as often as we can during the warmer months.  We will also camp in the fall.  It is one of my favorite times to camp.  I enjoy the cooler temperatures and the smell in the air at that time of year.  There is nothing like sitting around a campfire bundled up in a swearshirt cooking smores.  To those who haven’t experienced it you are truly missing out.

Last year we only managed to get out camping a few times and I can feel the effects, because I am having some serious camping withdrawals.  Fortunately for us we have many great private, as well as state campgrounds, that aren’t very far from us.  They allow a fun weekend getaway without the hassle of having to drive for hours at a time to enjoy a pleasurable weekend away.

I think we shoud start thinking about our first camping trip this year and decide where we want to go.  Nothing like heading into the woods, setting up a tent, and appreciating nature for the weekend.  Of course getting to eat smores is good too!

I know just how you feel. We didn’t get to camp much last year eather. Being stuck inside so much this winter is not helping and it is giving me a searious case of cabin feaver! Camping Trips are in the works so I think that is what’s keeping me sane. Come On Spring!!

You and me both. My winter is nothing compared to yours, but still, all I can think about is camping and fishing.

  3. I can honestly say I’ve never been camping. I have sat out by the fire at our cabin house but never outdoors camping. I think I would enjoy it until it was time for bed.

Winter is starting to get to me I think. I do get out and shed hunt and scout but camping sounds so nice and relaxing, I think I am going to bed and dream for awhile.
