Local Woman’s Success
I want to introduce everyone to Amber Tamer. Jeff recently met Amber at the the Deer and Turkey Spectacular we attended in Lansing. Amber was the only woman to win an award in the archery division for this incredible buck that she shot in Allegan county on her brother-in-law’s property. The buck scored 129 6/8 and weighed approximately 220 pounds. This is only the second deer Amber has shot and it is also only her second year of hunting. I’d say she is off to a pretty good start.
Here’s the story in Amber’s words:
Myself and my husband Robert went to his brothers for the weekend to hunt out on his property in allegan. We got out there to late to hunt in the evening, so me not being much of a morning hunter, my husband basically had to talk me into hunting the next morning (which I’m glad he did). I was in a tree stand in a tree row with a blueberry field in front of me, with woods to the right of me, and a tall grass field behind me. My brother in-law told me to watch over my shoulder into the field because they usually come from the woods on the other side of that field. The sun was just starting to come up when I looked over my shoulder and caught a glimpse
of something moving in the grass and as it got lighter I could see it was a buck, and I watched him for a long time, and he kept coming my way across the field. Finally he started to walk down the tree line I was in and headed right for me. When he got close enough I stood up, drew back my bow, and waited for him to get close enough to get a good shot. He was not quite 20 yards from me when he stopped broadside and was facing the blueberry field, but where he stopped I couldn’t get a shot because the way I was standing in the tree stand there was a tree blocking his vitals, so I took one step over and seen I had a good shot. I put the pin on him and took a deep breath and thought to myself “shoot him amber”. I hit my release and saw him kick and my illuminock light up and I knew I got him. There was a really good blood trail and he ran 80-100 yards before he dropped. I didn’t realize how big he really was until I found him in the woods. This was only my 2nd year hunting and my first year I got a big doe. So, getting this buck was a lot of luck and some skill on my part, LOL.
Personally I love it when the ladies show the guys up. So congrats to Amber on a very nice buck. Thanks for showing my brother up at the show as well. I truly appreciate that since I can’t do it myself.
I better see a lot of people give some props to Amber in the comments. That is truly one nice deer. I can only hope that I have a run in with a buck that is even close to that size someday.
We hope Amber keeps coming back to the site and that every year she has a buck to submit that looks like that:)

I would have to agree that she is off to a awesome start.
I wish her all the best of luck in her deer hunting exploits.
Congrats Amber! That is a great buck and nice that Arthur posted here for all of us to see.
yeah it did kind of make my deer look small! But mine is still bigger than anything Arthur has shot!…lol…I couldn’t pass on that comment!
Congrats Amber..
That is a nice buck and one heck of a way to start a hunting career.
Great buck and a wonderful story… Congratulations Amber!
Now if you could just get that DJ Jeff guy to quit shooting those small bucks, he may just get a monster like yours LOL
WAY TO GO AMBER! That is a great buck and a great story too! That will be a good tale to pass on to the next generation of hunters.
