A Whole New Hunting Mind
Recently I've been reading Daniel Pinks', A Whole New Mind, and it's quite intriguing.  It came as recommended reading from my boss at work, and I was intrigued by the concept of the book right from the start. Basically, the idea behind the book is that most of us - from a young age - are instructed to pursue left-brained careers - computer programming and accounting to name a few - when, actu...
SOTV: ‘09 Turkey Hunts
Last year, Jeff and I were both successful in our turkey hunting pursuits - Jeff shot a nice jake, and I shot my first bird - a jake - as well.  And we were lucky enough to capture both of those hunts on film too. I love sharing these videos with all of you, and I love them for selfish reasons as well.  It's just great to, not only be able to re-live the moment in your mind, but also to be ab...
Sponsor On-Board
It's been one heck of a month here at SimplyOutdoors, and it just keeps getting better.  I'm very proud and pleased to announce that we have our first sponsor - Cottage Craft Works. Cottage Craft Works make all kinds of unique things - hand-made furniture, fishing lures, custom gun stocks, toys and, of course, my personal favorite, hunting calls.  They make box calls, slate calls, owl hoots, ...
Walks: Getting Outside Anyway We Can
Sure, a lot of the sidewalks are a muddy mess, and a few of them are quite treacherous - ice-covered and very slick from the snow that has melted during the day and then re-froze at night.  But that hasn't kept the wife, Abby, or myself from enjoying a walk the last couple evenings. It's interesting this time of the year as well.  On one end it's great to see the snow disappearing and the sta...
Michigan’s Changing of the Seasons
I walked out the back door yesterday afternoon - to take out the trash - and I was promptly met by spring.  This weekend the weather has been unbelievable, especially considering that we were ice fishing just last weekend; we hit the 50 degree mark yesterday, and we're supposed to be in the high 40's, low 50's all week this week.  So much for ice fishing, I guess. What I experienced this week...

What I thought I would never do

Posted By: Arthur on January 26, 2008 in Site goodies - Comments: 5 Comments »

myspace.gifI finally did it.  I have been fighting this for quite some time, but I broke down and did it.  I didn’t enjoy it, but I think it will go a little way to help promote the blog.  I hope so anyway.  Now everyone is asking “What did he do?”.  I will tell you.  I put SimplyOutdoors.net out there for the social networking gods to see.  I created a Myspace account.

I have been trying to fight it for some time, but I want the blog to become more popular and one sure fire way to help that cause is to put it in the social networking scene.  I just couldn’t fight it any longer.  There is no quicker way on the World Wide Web to get noticed.  So I did it and I’m not ashamed.

In all fairness I hope quite a few people notice us this way and then make their way over to the blog and become a bigger part of our audience.  After all that is the goal of our site; to attract an audience and to attract new readers on a daily basis.  I think Myspace is one way of doing it.

So if any of you out there reading this have a Myspace account, don’t hesitate to add us.  Our address is http://www.myspace.com/simplyoutdoors.  I’m looking forward to all the new contacts that we attract from this endeavour.  The more people we can get our message out to the better:)

I have to say you are really putting an effort into building Simply Outdoors and I give you a lot of credit. I sincerely hope this works and like Kristine says if it does maybe I will think about it.

    Good Luck with this venture.

I think it’s a great idea. I did the same thing and have noticed that there are more visitors coming to my blog.

Another interesting thing was that I had a guy from two towns over send me a message through mySpace and we had spoke in a local archery shop one day, but never even caught each other’s names. It’s amazing how small a world it is.

  4. I used Linked in and FaceBook, although I haven’t been as aggressive about promoting blogs as I would like to be. Guess I’ll have to get a bit more firedup about that.

Oh, just want to correct some confusion. Kris is the guy who writes Jake’s Outdoors. You’ll never see me listed anywhere as Kris, I always go by Kristine. So if you see a comment from Kris, it is him.

Unless, of course, he says something really insightful and witty. Then I’ll probably claim it was me. :-)

    oooooooohhhhhhhhh nnnnnnnnnnnoooooooo!!!!!!!!
Please don’t tell me that I now have to get a myspace page if I want more readers. Just tell me it isn’t so…
My wife and I always make fun of our friends that have them. I will have to keep it a secret if I do it or she will never let me live it down. Oh, please tell me it isn’t working.
