All of us hunters have been there. Sitting in a treestand on a crisp clear morning, and waiting for that first hint of the sun to appear. Our thoughts drifting to the possibility of what this particular sunrise will bring; maybe that monster buck, or maybe just a simple day of taking it all in and appreciating everything in nature that is right in front of our eyes.

Plenty of folks never get to experience this sort of thing. They go about their lives never appreciating the simple things in life. The dew dripping off the leaves after a frosty morning or just the simple act of watching a sunrise. They never get to experience the earth and nature in its purest form. Simple, sweet, magnificent and absolutely breathtaking.

I can tell you on many occasions I have set in all of these different backdrops and known for sure that one thing definitely existed. How could one not take a look at what has been created all around you and not feel a connection to a higher power? How could one watch the sunrise, appreciate the earth come to life, and not have a connection with God?

I am not an overly religious person and I will say outright that I don’t attend church as much as I should, but I am for certain that their is a god and that he does in fact exist. I’m not trying to have a religous debate but I don’t know how one can hunt and not feel a definite spiritual connection with God. I am not trying to preach in any shape or form, but I have definitely felt a presence whenever I’m hunting. Their is a certain spritual connection that a person who appreciates nature gets when they are in the outdoors. All of the things that are before us come to life and we learn to appreciate life in its simplest form. We are aware and appreciate everything that nature does and has to offer. We appreciate life and how it got here.

Too many things these days have had God taken out of the equation and that is exactly why certain things are in the shape they are in. For all of you out their looking for a way to get your kids interested in life, nature, and the earth, take a kid hunting and show them exactly how life should be lived and how to respect the land in which we live on. It will open their eyes to things around them and help teach them discipline and respect in the process. Respect for nature, the ground we have been provided, an the animals that help us sustain life, but most importantly it will show them the beautiful things we have on this earth and make them appreciate just how and why they were created by Him.

Amen!!! I think that it is crazy to say that all these creatures (let alone human beings) have “evolved”. Being in the woods and taking in all of nature only reiterates the fact for me that there is indeed a Creator!

  • Scriptures says that creation itself points to its Creator. Many scholars also believe that creation itself is longing for a savior…to be redeemed and restored to its original state.

    Great post, Arthur!

  • All of a sudden I felt the urge to go to church! all kidding aside…I love to hunt with family more than anything! And in my line of work a quiet morning in woods is for a lack of a better word would be..”healing”

  • Arthur,

I am 100% with you on this… Only watching the births of our two sons has made me feel closer to God than when I am outdoors.
Wonderful post! With writing like this, I think you will find more readers than ever before.

  • Thanks for your post. It is a wonderful time to commune with God when you are experiencing what he has prepared for his creations.

  • The only thing I can say is “amen to that”
