Huntin’ Time Expo/My Lack of Posts
It's absolutely no secret that I've been neglectful of this blog lately. Some evidence: I never posted a few of the deer that Justin shot. I didn't post anything about Jeff, Barry, Erin, and Josh heading down to the ATA show in Columbus a little over a week ago. And I've never posted anything about the fact that SimplyOutdoors TV will be airing on the Pursuit Channel starting in January 2...
End of Deer Season: Maybe I Stink
Last night I cleaned my muzzleloader.  And though I usually love the feeling that comes with cleaning any firearm, last night's cleaning kind of depressed me a little, because it was a sure sign that another deer season had passed and that I had once again went through an entire season without putting any venison in the freezer. As I was cleaning and reflecting back on the last couple of seaso...
Bittersweet Hunt: The Rest of the Story
In my previous post, I eluded to the fact that my miss last Sunday morning was only the beginning of a very memorable morning.  Here is the "rest of the story". After my miss, it was still only a little after 8am, so Jeff and I decided that we might as well stick it out for a little while and see if any other deer decided they wanted to eat out of his food plot. And that is when the weirdne...
Bittersweet Hunt
Though I had only been able to hunt a handful of times, the fact remained that I hadn't laid eyes on a deer since around October 8th.  It was making it pretty difficult to head into the woods, because I honestly wasn't sure if I was ever going to see a deer again; I was starting to wonder if I had a deer whistle permanently embedded within my body that was preventing them from coming within a hal...
Another Deer for Jeff
While I don't have much to celebrate when it comes to deer hunting, after tonight I can bask in at least one thing:  that I told Jeff about Hornady SST's, and that, because of my wisdom, Jeff was able to put down this big doe without fear of his bullet coming apart. Congrats to Jeff.  Welcome to the dark side, and say goodbye to Powerbelts.

What’s Happening?

edmetub.jpgI thought that I would do a little post, and through a little show and tell, give everyone an idea of what is happening in my life lately.  With it being a new year it is always a good time to look at the things that are happening and be appreciative of what you have and look forward to the year that is to come.  It is also a time for new things and that is exactly what is taking up my time lately.

I got to buy my new bow this year, and of course if I get to buy something new, then the wife gets something as well.  I bought the bow back in July and she couldn’t decide until just recently what she wanted.  She wanted a new bath tub. Yep, just a new bath tub.

We have only had our house a year and a half, and it was built in the early 1900′s, so there is definitely some things that need to be done to it and we have been chipping away at them one job at a time.  I decided that if we were going to put in a new bathtub then we are going to re-do the entire bathroom.  Little did I know what I was getting myself into.

ceiling.jpgI am not that “handy” when it comes to house maintenance or repair.  It is just not my thing, but thankfully we have a Father-in-law contractor as a guide.  I had no idea when I decided to do this bathroom project, what all it was going to entail. I thought you would pull the old tub out and slide in a new and on and on.  Not quite!  Next I know we are ripping out the old ceiling and insulation, ripping off the drywall on an outside wall, and completely destroying the bathroom to get ready for the process of upgrading it.  Then we are re-doing the entire incoming water service for the house along with a couple of other things as well.  We did reveal how old the house was when we tore everything apart, but I am excited to tell you that it is coming together quite nicely and the bathroom is going to look incredible when it’s done.  That will make the wife extremely happy, which is the most important part.

shower.jpgSo that is what we have been doing for about a week now and it will continue for the next few days.  I can’t wait for it to be done and it is honestly the perfect time to get this done since mother nature has been something else to us lately.  We got another 10 inches last night so staying inside and working on the house works out perfect for me.

When we do get back to outdoor activities they will probably involve some rabbit hunting as well as an outdoor show that is coming up in February.  Jeff is going to be submitting a couple of his mounts into the mix at the show so I will let everyone how he comes out from that.

2008 is going to be a good one.  I can’t wait for SimplyOutdoors to celebrate their first year and I am looking forward to turkey hunting and steelhead fishing that will be coming around soon.  Hopefully the bathroom will be done by then!

What a nice thing to do for your wife – a new bathroom.

Looking forward to hearing about all the upcoming activities from SimplyOutdoors.

  2. I’m with you on not having major skills when it comes to home maintenance. I don’t envy you this project, although I bet it is awesome when it gets done.

  3. Sounds like your not “handy” is like my not “handy” in the kitchen story.

I am sure it will turn out nice once it is all complete. Make sure to post a before and after photo.

  4. [...] our friend, Arthur’s Simply Outdoors blog this morning and he seems to be in the midst of a home reno project that would be a perfect fit for our contest (hint, hint, Arthur ). Of course, purely for the [...]

  5. You see, whenever I have a request and my boyfriend says “That’s it? Just a new (insert item here)”, well that means giant, complicated project will likely ensue. As an example, I wanted a couple of shelves to be placed in an odd spot of our home. “That is it, honey? Just a couple of shelves”? Well a month and a half, a broken thumb nail, and maybe a paycheque or two later, we have our custom made shelving unit!

Judging by the pictures you are doing a fine job and I’m sure you can’t wait till it’s done.

  7. Funny you should blog about this. My Wife and I went to Home Depot back in November to (JUST) get some new tile for one of our bathroom floors.

When we arrived back at the house, I had new tile, new hardware for the bathroom and 6 new light fixtures for the rest of the house.

I can do all this stuff, but I hate too. But I was trying to be the good husband I am ;)

Well, I finally got the floor tiled, all the new towel/tp bars, etc. attached and the new light fixtures hung.

It has been a long time since I cussed that much!

    Don
