Too cold for hunting? and think of Gobblers!

Info

First off, I have to be honest.  Lately I’ve been thinking that I might have to change the name of the site to Simply Inside.  There just hasn’t been much outdoor happenings in my neck of the woods lately.  One reason is that the weather has been miserable.  A freezing rain/snow storm on Saturday night and winds in the 30mph range the last couple of days.  Now if that isn’t a recipe that just screams “stay inside”- I don’t know what does.

I have been itching to take the bow out for at least one last whirl, but the weather just makes me want to stay inside.  I know I’m not crazy, when even Jeff is staying in.  Normally he is a hunting fool, no matter what the weather, but the weather this weekend even kept him inside (except for Saturday morning).

It looks like the weather might cooperate for a hunt this weekend, but I have lived in Michigan long enough to know that you can never be sure.  You might as well check the weather when you get up, because it could have changed from the night before.  I think that being a meteorologist in this state is one of the easiest jobs you could possibly have.  There is definitely no pressure of having an “accurate” forecast.  With the Great Lakes, the weather seems to change hourly sometimes.

The wife and I have also been talking about getting a couple of major house projects done.  With winter already here and the amount of things we need to do (like start Christmas shopping), there is a good chance that the hunting instances will be slim to none.  I’m not putting things away yet, but it is getting that time of year.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate a little to give me some motivation.

Sad thing is I’m already starting to think about next year and turkey hunting!  I have to bag one of them gobblers.  Plus in the Spring, it’s warm!

  • I know what you mean but, I am not quite ready to pack it away for the winter. Muzzleloader starts the day after tomarrow so I want to get out a few more days and try to harvest another one.
Good Luck if you do try to go out one last time or Good Luck with the house projects, whichever comes first.

  • The weather was certainly dicey this weekend. Cold and damp and snowy. Guess we get one more round tonight and then things back off some tomorrow and the wind calms down.

Of course, as you said, that could all change by tomorrow morning.

  • It’s strange but despite the harsh weather I’ve really wanted to go fishing…I’ve had an awful bow season and am currently an extremely frustrated hunter…I need to get back on the water and I can’t wait until spring…

  • I braved the 31 mph winds for 50 minutes Sunday morning. Hubby and I went back out to help our neighbor load his buck and doe in the back of his pickup. Then I sat from 2:30 – 4:00. I came back in and was so cold I didn’t warm up very fast. Got to get used to it I guess…;) Spring is a ways away.

  • Don’t pack it in yet! You never know when that buck will show up and it could be this weekend, good luck!
