SOTV: ‘09 Turkey Hunts
Last year, Jeff and I were both successful in our turkey hunting pursuits - Jeff shot a nice jake, and I shot my first bird - a jake - as well.  And we were lucky enough to capture both of those hunts on film too. I love sharing these videos with all of you, and I love them for selfish reasons as well.  It's just great to, not only be able to re-live the moment in your mind, but also to be ab...
Sponsor On-Board
It's been one heck of a month here at SimplyOutdoors, and it just keeps getting better.  I'm very proud and pleased to announce that we have our first sponsor - Cottage Craft Works. Cottage Craft Works make all kinds of unique things - hand-made furniture, fishing lures, custom gun stocks, toys and, of course, my personal favorite, hunting calls.  They make box calls, slate calls, owl hoots, ...
Walks: Getting Outside Anyway We Can
Sure, a lot of the sidewalks are a muddy mess, and a few of them are quite treacherous - ice-covered and very slick from the snow that has melted during the day and then re-froze at night.  But that hasn't kept the wife, Abby, or myself from enjoying a walk the last couple evenings. It's interesting this time of the year as well.  On one end it's great to see the snow disappearing and the sta...
Michigan’s Changing of the Seasons
I walked out the back door yesterday afternoon - to take out the trash - and I was promptly met by spring.  This weekend the weather has been unbelievable, especially considering that we were ice fishing just last weekend; we hit the 50 degree mark yesterday, and we're supposed to be in the high 40's, low 50's all week this week.  So much for ice fishing, I guess. What I experienced this week...
SOTV: New Youth Video
Head on over to SimpyOutdoors TV and check out the new video we posted. During Michigan's Early Anterless Season last year, Jeff and Tyler G. did their best to fill Tyler's first tag. This early season allowed Tyler to experience all the emotions that come with hunting - the feeling that comes with missing, and then the elation that comes with.........well you'll just have to watch to find out...

Time is killing me, and giving some props.

I’m going to schedule this post for in the morning, but I’m sitting here tonight and I am absolutely going stir crazy.

The anticipation of opening day is getting to me, and it is completely dark  so I can’t do anything about it.  I will be able to get out and shoot the bow tomorrow night,  so that will help, but right now I’m going nuts.  I don’t have a bowhunting magazine to read, and I’ve watched my DVD’s about a hundred times.  Thank god there is football on all weekend or I don’t know what I would do.  Oh to be sitting in my stand on Monday morning.  Let me close my eyes and picture it!  AAAAAAHHHH.  Much better!

On a different note, my little mood here as lead me to some pretty good stuff in the blogosphere (wow, that sounds nerdy).

Darrell, over at AlphaTrilogy, finally has decided on a mission statement for his site.  It is simple, but yet will be very effective.  I love the straight to the pointness of it.  I think it is the best mission statement I have ever came across.

Rick, at Tails and Trails, has a very good post on remembering to slow down and appreciate the things we have and get to do.  All of us could learn a lesson from this post.  So many times we get caught up in the hum drum responsibilities we have that we don’t pay attention to what is available around us.  An excellent post.

Kristine, over at the Hunt Smart, Think Safety blog, has a very good post about the whacky weather we’ve been having in Michigan.  It has been strange lately.  She also touches on how weather effects deer behavior.

Tom, over at the Black Bear Blog, continued his coverage on the Scent-Lok lawsuit with some details about the case.  I am watching this one very closely and I am very curious to see how this plays out.

Mike, over at Hunting with Mike, describes how sometimes even the best laid plans just don’t work out.  I so could relate to this story after my weekend Youth Hunt I participated in.  No matter what, sometimes you just can’t predict wild animals.  I look forward to seeing his update when he gets back from his trip to Marquette as well.

A lot of very good and intriguing stuff going on in the hunting community right now.  There are many more articles to mention, but for the lack of space, and my lack of focus right now (deer on the brain), they will have to reserved for a later time.

Everyone start counting the days with me….4, almost 3……….Man I can’t wait.

  1. Thanks for the mention. What’s funny is I don’t hunt yet, and I’m getting anxious for things to get going. Guess I want to hear all the stories you guys who do hunt are going to tell. I’m thinking this will be the year of the big successes for all my hunting friends.

Go GET ‘EM Arthur! I know how you feel when the date on the calendar brings on the learned anticipation from year to year. Waiting to hear about your success.

The anticipation of any opening day, be it bow season, fishing season, football season, is always the most unbearable just before it actually arrives. Luckily, our bow opener was the first weekend of september. I feel for you, good luck on Monday…

  4. Hang in there friend it’s only a day or two more. Here in BC the season opener started without me. It has been the first time ever that I had to miss the first day of hunting season.
