A Match made in Heaven?
She's a vegetarian. He's a hunter. You would think the two of them would never work - but, surprisingly, here they were on the dance floor sharing their first dance as husband and wife. I was intrigued. Of the two people mentioned above, I only know the vegetarian - and, honestly, I don't know her very well.  I was still intrigued, though, and not because she's a vegetarian - anyone w...
First signs of Fall
As I walked behind the mower last week, I saw them - brown, green, crisp and dead - laying there in the mower's path; they were the first visible signs that fall is almost upon us. I realize that Labor Day isn't even here yet, but the dead leaves laying in the yard, the yellowing of the beans and corn, as well as the lower morning temps, are a sure sign that fall will be here soon. This time...
Abby’s first trip to the Zoo
With summer winding down, and hunting season close to kicking into full gear, the wife and I really wanted to do one last - purely for Abby - activity.   Then, one night while reading one of her favorite books, I instantly knew where we were heading - the zoo. Abby loves to read books involving animals, and she loves to name the animals as we read through the books.  She loves all the animal...
Moving stands, checking cams: No outfitter needed!
When I'm watching outdoor television, there is nothing that gets under my skin more than hearing the person in front of the camera say something like this: "Well......we're on our way to Battle Creek Outfitters to hunt for a few days. Jim, of BC Outfitters, has been watching a few bucks during the year, so hopefully we'll have a chance at one of them in the next few days. We're gonna get a sh...
The Aftermath
It rained on July 4th. And while the rain was a welcome relief to the retreating soldiers, as well as the victorious ones, it was not welcomed by the local residents of the little Pennsylvania town.  It came down in sheets, soaking the unburied bodies still on the field - some with hands folded, and others with clenched fists; it inhibited the Army of Northern Virginia's retreat across the Pot...

Spotlight!

Posted By: Arthur on September 4, 2007 in Hunting, Scouting and Setup - Comments: 3 Comments »

My brother calls me on Sunday night and asks me “Are you sitting down”?  Talk about a phrase that will definitely peak your curiosity.  It could go either way.  It could be terrible news or good news.  You just never know.  Anyway, he proceeds to tell me why.

He snuck out to our property on Sunday night and decided that him and his son would do a little shining on the property.  To make a long story short he shined seven deer and every one of them was a buck, including a wall hanger.  My nephew described it like this: “I have never shined a buck that huge”, or something like that anyway.  If only I would have saved the voicemails the brother left that begged me to call him back.  I cannot wait for season.  Cannot wait.  We did make a pact as well that we are going to check the trail cam this weekend and then we are leaving it alone until the youth hunt in a couple weeks.  That is going to be hard to do!!

    Matt,

The youth hunt is Sep 22-23. Cannot wait to get out there. Even though I’m only a spectator.

    Darrell,

I hope she does too…..and thankfully the tornado damage clean up is coming along and everyone is ok.
