A good end to the week
It’s Friday and I was lucky enough to have it off. After my other obligations this week, Jeff and I finally got to sneak out to the propery and check the one trail cam we have up. Got lucky too.

u see at the start of the post making his way through the spot. Also caught this momma and her child a couple of times. I’m not sure what she was doing, having her kid out past midnight, but I guess something good must have been going on:).\
I also have this picture, and if anyone can shed some light on it, I would love to know. What is wrong with this doe’s neck?? Is that a normal thing? Is it just a pigment problem? Thought it was kinda strange, so if any of you know what that it is do share.
I left the camera up in the same spot. I think I will leave it there at least for another week, and then I’m going to move it back by my stand location for awhile. I am so addicted to this cam thing. It is so much fun.

Looks like mange to me. Might want to pick up an extra doe permit to take get her out of the neighborhood.
A friend of mine had a shot of a doe that looked very similar. I thought possibly mange too. But what about molting? (or whatever they call it in mammals where they transition from summer coats to winter coats) It seems a bit early for that though.

I honestly thinking molting too, but I honestly have no idea. Thought I might do a little research into it and see what I could find, because I thought it was a little early for that as well.
probably has ticks up front and has been rubbing herself crazy. she is fat and looks healthy besides that. Should be Ok.
I have tons of deer on camera with the exact same markings. I don’t believe that it is molting because I have shots of deer in the middle of winter with the same thing. I also do not believe it is mange.
I think that they just rub themselves bald while trying to relieve the itching of mites and fleas. When we kill one, I will check it out more closely to see if we can’t figure it out. I also may take some of my shots by our local biologist to see what he has to say about the cause.

Sounds good. I just had never saw that type of marking on a deer before. Concerned me a little. Let me know what you find out from the biologist if you get a chance.
