If we start to increase their rights through legislation then we may be headed down a slippery slope since that is exactly what many animal &quot;protection&quot; groups are after.</description>

		<description>I love dogs as well.  We&#039;ve always had Labs in my family, and they were always loyal dogs who wouldn&#039;t hesitate to put themselves between us and danger.  

That said, I&#039;m not sure whether I agree with you about the punishment not being suitable.  You pretty much only have misdemeanors and felonies.  You can&#039;t really call it attempted homicide or manslaughter.  So what would be the appropriate punishment?  And does this just go for dogs, or does it extend to any pet?  

I guess this is a difficult one to call.</description>
